things to do sunshine coast

December? Already? Yep, it’s the last month of 2017 and it’s time to make the most of living in this fabulous region of ours with this list of things to do on the Sunshine Coast.

There’s plenty of Christmassy things to do but also some great breweries to visit, markets to spend up large, and even an outdoor movie night. Grab the calendar and get jotting!

Friday Arvos At Your Mates Brewery

You’ve downed their beers at pubs, bars and restaurants across the Sunshine Coast, and if you’re a true guzzler, you’ve probably even visited them at their very own bar, The Basement in Nambour. And now, the boys from Your Mates are giving you the chance to drink cold ones at their Moffat Beach brewery every Friday. They’ll be pouring beers off tap, including Larry, Donnie and their newbie cider, plus, there’s even promise of a food truck popping up on site to help balance the booze with a bit of substance.

When: Every Friday, from 3pm to 8pm
Where: Your Mates Brewery, Shed 4/30 Allen Street, Moffat Beach

Try Australia’s First Ever Coffee In A Doughnut

We know you’ve got a lot on your plate, figuratively, but this is something you should literally put on there. Australia’s first ever coffee in a doughnut has officially arrived and it’s being brought to us by the clever folks at Kenilworth Bakery. Just think, a cinnamon round of doughy goodness, hollowed out in the middle and lined with gooey Nutella, before being loaded with smooth, strong coffee. Drooling yet?

When: Available seven days, from 6am to 3pm (limited availability)
Where: Kenilworth Bakery, 8 Elizabeth Street, Kenilworth
Cost: $8

Nights On Ocean

It feels like it’s getting longer and longer between Nights On Ocean, but that’s because we love it so dang much. Packing Ocean Street with even more epic eats—hello, food trucks!—pop-up alleyway bars and local designers, we’re all over this night market. Start with an arvo drink and cheap $5 eats at Orleans, go for a stroll through the stalls and end the night bopping to your heart’s desire at Sol Bar or Old Soul. You’re welcome!

When: Friday 8 December, from 5pm
Where: Ocean Street, Maroochydore

Christmas Carols At Peregian Beach

The longest running Chrissy carols on the Sunshine Coast, Peregian Beach’s epic annual event will be setting up in the park for the 53rd year. That’s just crazy talk! Round up the kids (or pups), pack a picnic blanket and jingle all the way down to the village for market and food stalls, roving performers, face-painting, a visit from the man in red himself, and a whole lot of in-tune singing.

When: Tuesday 12 December, from 5pm
Where: Peregian Beach Park, Peregian Beach
Cost: Entry is a gold coin donation

Watch Elf Under The Stars

No Christmas is complete without watching Elf. And thankfully, we’re not the only ones who think so. The legends from Open Air Cinemas are throwing an epic outdoor movie night, with a giant screening of this hilarious tale of a crazy-tall human in NYC who thinks he’s an actual elf. Classic. Perfect for the whole fam, there’ll be food trucks and live tunes to get you in the mood.

When: Wednesday 13 December, from 5pm
Where: Sunshine Coast Stadium, 31 Sportsman Parade, Bokarina
Cost: From $9.50

Boutique Market Night At RAW

RAW Sunshine Coast is hosting a special twilight market, bringing together local creatives, so you can shop their wares in the one spot, just in time for Christmas. From fashion and beauty to homewares brands, we’re pumped to hear some of our Sunshine Coast faves like The Great State, Cloth And Hide, Creative Bowerbird and Fettle Activewear will all be making an appearance. And, just when you think it couldn’t get any better, RAW will be offering a one-night only, storewide discount within the RAW showroom. Winning!

When: Thursday 14 December, 6pm to 9pm
Where: Raw Sunshine Coast, 23 Kayleigh Drive, Maroochydore

Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade

It only happens once a year, but it’s still one of the most renowned events on the Sunshine Coast. Guess that’s the power of lots of twinkling, sparkly Christmas lights floating along the river in convoy has on people. Watch the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade from the shore, decorated boat or your waterfront mansion, after all, this is the season to be jolly and this is one of the jolliest of events on the Sunshine Coast.

When: Saturday 16 December, from 6.30pm
Where: The Wharf Mooloolaba, Parkyn Parade, Mooloolaba

Boxing Day Soiree On M.V. Catalina

Fill the time between Xmas and NYE, with Catalina’s annual Boxing Day Soiree. Coaxing aboard MOTORIK, all the way from Sydney, we doubt this is a party you’re going to want to miss. Like all great events, there’s limited spots available and like a 215% chance they will all sell out, so don’t just sit there…book!

When: Tuesday 26 December, from 3.30pm
Where: M.V. Catalina Noosa, Gympie Terrace, Noosaville
Cost: $65

Woodford Folk Festival

Summer and festivals go together like Hank and Karen (yep, Californication still has our hearts). And no matter how many seasons (or years) they try to convince us it’s just not working (because of Queensland’s crazy summer storms) the fact is, it’s meant to be. This year’s Woodford Folk Festival line-up is looking mighty strong with the likes of John Butler, Beautiful Girls, Husky, Montaigne and Holy Holy rocking out. Get the sparkles ready ‘cause it’s gonna be a big one!

When: Wednesday 27 December to Monday 1 January
Where: Woodfordia, 87 Woodrow Road, Woodford
Cost: Ticket prices vary
