The Sunshine Coast is renowned for long, spectacular beaches, next-level hikes, and a sensational list of epic dining experiences. We’re not so known for our live music scene.
Great news is, with new music spots popping up across the region, unless you’re seriously desperate for a big smoke fix, you don’t have to venture too far.
We’ve rounded up the best live music spots on the Sunshine Coast, for your listening pleasure.
Ah the Sol Bar. If you’re a real local, you know this place. If you’re a real local for longer than 6 years, then you also know Sol Bar wasn’t always on Ocean Street. It used to call Coolum home. Anyhoo, the Sol Bar of today is still epic and there’s no way we could leave it off this handy hit list. Catching a gig at this bar is among the best things to do on the Sunshine Coast, if you’re sol is hanging for some live tunes. (Sorry, couldn’t help it.)
The Nook and Cranny
If you’re planning on ticking off the two new irresistible reasons to get to Nambour, why not stay a little longer and catch an act at The Nook and Cranny. This restaurant slash bar slash music and comedy venue is one of our fave places to hang on the Coast, and pumps folk, indie, reggae, and blues (to name a few) from Thursday ‘til Sunday. Swing by between 5pm and 6pm, and grab yourself a cheesy 2-for-1 happy hour pizza. To keep up to date with what’s coming up, stalk The Nook and Cranny’s Facebook page.
Caloundra got lucky with Drift Bar. They’ve got water views of the passage, a tasty menu to satisfy hungry eyes, craft beers, AND they belt out a smorgasbord of live music. Make no mistake, this place has a super laidback vibe but come the weekend it can get a little bit rowdy (in a good way) on the D-floor.
The Piano Bar
Who doesn’t love jazz? Alright, maybe don’t answer that. But for those that DO, The Piano Bar on Ocean Street is a must-hit. With its very own Baby Grand piano as the centrepiece, The Piano Bar is home to live jazz music every god-damn night of the week. Schmooze to classic sounds while you dine on more-ish tapas from over 21 countries. Romance levels will be hitting an all-time high!
Noosa Surf Club
Yep, Noosa Surf Club makes the cut because this salty crew manages to pull some of the best Australian acts around. And for that, we can’t help but be impressed. From coasty, cruisy acoustic musicians like Andrew Kidman to Sydney bands, The Preatures and Caravana Sun, keep an eye on their upcoming gig list and grab your tickets!
Sneaky little ol’ Nambour is coming up with the gems, and when the night hits there’s a chair with our names on it at The Bison Bar. Serving up classic cocktails, vintage charm and intimate live acts, if you haven’t been here yet, mark it down on your things to do on the Sunshine Coast list.
Café Le Monde + El Capitano
We’re pairing these two Noosa restaurants together because they’re run by the same folk and they both offer live music. Thursday to Sunday, Café Le Monde lets the sounds rip, and El Capitano has DJs busting their moves on Fridays and Saturday nights. Let the good times roll!
