10 Places We’d Rather Be Right Now

By Emily Hutchinson - 27 Jan 2015

Sure, you may have just come back from a holiday, but we wont hold it against you if you happen to already be dreaming about your next escape. While the computer screen at work begs for your attention, you may find yourself blissfully conjuring up images of sunny beaches in Mexico, or clinking wine glasses with a mysterious Italian in Florence. To help along that daydreaming process, here are 10 places we’d rather be right now.

Trinidad, Cuba

For the perfect Caribbean retreat that will transport you to another world and time, Trinidad is the answer. This colourful little town is famous for its vintage cars, tropical beaches and strong rum cocktails. Picture yourself in a town where no car can beat a trusty old horse and carriage and one of the best ice creams around costs a mere 20 cents. When’s the next flight out?

Zürs, Austria

It may be hot beach weather in the majority of the Southern Hemisphere, but the Northern Hemisphere is having one excellent ski season if you’re dreaming of a chilly escape. Jump on some skis and explore the stunning snowcapped mountains of Zürs. Once the skiing is done, get involved with all the fun at Mooser with a drink that will soon make you forget about how cold it is.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

You may have a meeting in half an hour, but how about instead taking-off to the tropical shores of Montego Bay? After a day of snorkeling, head over to Scotchies for a traditional Jamaican barbecue and soak up the incredible sunset.

Majorca, Spain

How about Majorca for an impromptu retreat? The Spanish island is famous for its beautiful beaches and personality-packed small towns. Book into the Font Santa Hotel and enjoy being within a beautiful island setting while feeling utterly pampered and healthy.

Hobart, Australia

Come on, it’s Hobart! Totally achievable as a place you can go to for a weekend. Whisk down to Hobart and enjoy a town that boasts a distinct European feel. Visit world famous MONA, wonder through the historical town centre and finish off the night by cooking up a feast with fresh produce from Salamanca market.

New York City, USA

The temperatures may be sub zero at the moment, but New York City is perfect all-year-round. Shop till you drop in Soho, devour a delicious pizza at Roberta’s in Brooklyn and finish with a nightcap at The Standard rooftop.

Marrakesh, Morocco

If you are up for more of an action packed escape at a city with an extensive history, how about Marrakesh? It may be hard to leave the luxurious riads, such as Faranatchi , but when you do, Marrakesh doesn’t disappoint. Shop at the lively souks, soak up the hot sun and pass around some shisha with friends at a traditional shisha cafe.

Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia

With such a beautiful island escape only three hours from Sydney, it’s no wonder we don’t all just pack up and leave for a weekend. The island is completely unique with the sophistication of the French in an undoubtedly Pacific setting. The Loyalty Islands are some of the most beautiful in the world. Sparsely populated beaches and incredible cliff-top views, you will feel like one lucky cast away.

Niseko, Japan

Launch yourself into the fresh powder at Niseko and take in the stunning view of the snow-capped mountains. After a day on the slopes, make sure you soak away those aches and pains in a traditional onsen and ready yourself for another day of action.

Florence, Italy

Say ciao to life in Australia and say bonjourno to Florence. There’s no better way to enjoy Florence than walking the cobbled streets of the town, shopping at the Ponte Vecchio and even pop across to the Tuscan hills to sample some of the local wine.
