Fave 5 Breakfasts To Try This Weekend

When we love something we really, truly LOVE something! And that’s exactly how we feel about our new relationship! Some things just go together. Like cookies and cream, Brandon and Brenda… The Urban List and MINI!

Our two families have collaborated to bring discerning readers and drivers a new fortnightly series – MINI Fave 5s. The must-try guide to Sydney, celebrating the launch of the new MINI 5-door hatch!

So, Urban Listers, clear the diary and get excited for our Fave 5s. There’s a whole year of eating, drinking and discovering to be done…

You know us, Listers, you know us all too well. You know we spend pretty much every waking second on the hunt for the best restaurants in Sydney. And you definitely know we spend tireless hours searching for the best breakfast in Sydney, just so we can spread the joy and guarantee that only the most decadent, delicious, and worthy grub ends up on your plate and in your stomach.

So you can imagine, narrowing the best damn breakfasts in Sydney down to five was like choosing between hundreds upon hundreds of our bacon-and-maple-syrup-covered children. But we do it, Listers, just because we love you—almost as much as we love eating the best food in Sydney.

So, here it is: our fave five Sydney breakfasts to try this weekend. Ready, set, bacon!

What A Croque Of Bacon

Cuckoo Callay, Newtown
No doubt you’ve heard about the Bacon Festival going down at Cuckoo Callay in Newtown at the mo’—if not, it’s time to hightail it down there and get yourself a serving of heavenly pig-based breakfast, stat. What A Croque Of Bacon is a heart-stopping mountain of joy in the form of bacon (obvs), basil, and cheddar croquettes served with—wait for it—bourbon bacon (!!), pea puree, and two perfectly oozy poached eggs. It’s enough to have you squealing in delight while chomping it down. Thirsty or feeling a little worse for wear? Grab a Bloody Bacon Cuckootail, the Mother of all hangover cures.

Coconut Chia Pudding

Harry’s Bar & Dining, Bondi Beach
For the more sensible eaters among us, there’s the newly refurbished and downright jaw-dropping Sydney restaurant, Harry’s Bar & Dining on Bondi Beach. When you’ve picked your jaw up off the floor (the new look is pretty spesh), Harry’s coconut & chia pudding will have it open very soon after, as you shovel this epic Sydney breakfast dish in like it’s your last meal on earth. Topped with perfectly crunchy house-made granola, stone fruit, and toasted coconut, it’s almost a shame to mix this up and ruin the pretty picture on your plate. Almost.

Dr Seuss’ Green Eggs And Ham

Devon On Danks, Waterloo
The urge to rhyme this spiel about a breakfast so delicious is making us forget it’s not so nutritious. Okay, we’ll stop. But seriously, we do like this green eggs and ham, so much so in fact that maximum food porn photos must be taken of this mind-blowing Sydney breakfast from Waterloo's, Devon On Danks. And before you tell us it sounds rather simple, we’re going to blow your mind by telling you this one is seriously left of centre; it features thick-cut bacon, crispy potato, one of those impossibly perfect 63-degree eggs, alongside green tomato ketchup and pea puree. It is absolutely nothing like what you expect but everything you could ever need in a morning meal. Very deserving of a spot on any list of the best breakfast in Sydney.

Hot Smoked Salmon Breakfast

The Incinerator, Willoughby
When we first sunk our teeth into the hot smoked salmon breakfast at Willoughby café, The Incinerator, we finally accepted that not every breakfast needs to come jammed with bacon. Served with tangy horseradish yoghurt, BBQ corn, asparagus, and poached eggs, we did the only appropriate thing when first faced with this epic Sydney breakfast: we punished it. It’s the perfect way to kick off (or end) your weekend and it’s a must if you’re looking for one of the best breakfasts in Sydney.

Croissant French Toast

The Boathouse, Palm Beach
We’re not even going to bother asking if we can have a hell yeah! Because we already know we can. I mean… Croissant. French. Toast. At what is unequivocally one of Sydney’s best breakfast spots: The Boathouse Palm Beach. This tantalising dish is best served after tackling the famous Barrenjoey Lighthouse walk, but we’ve definitely enjoyed it just as much after rolling out of bed. Served with maple syrup, fruit cream and buckwheat, there is simply no excuse to share these, and it is unquestionably worth the drive to this Sydney cafe if you’re not a local.

We're thrilled to partner with MINI to bring you our Fave 5 series—our fortnightly guide to the best of the best in Sydney. From food to fashion, Campari to Crossfit, each Fave 5 edition is researched and recommended by The Urban List, and driven by the new MINI 5-Door Hatch—putting the city at your fingertips and giving you the freedom to explore it!
