One tequila, two tequila, three tequila… More! Sydneysiders, this fun-loving, after hours drink and its closely related agave relatives are hitting up Sydney’s shores for a blockbuster weekend of agave master classes, tasting sessions, talks and parties. Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd March, Agave Love will see over 2,500 consumers, bar owners and liquor industry insiders descend upon the National Art School Sydney’s Cell Block Theatre and six of Sydney’s best bars for a range of enticing, agave-centric talks and tastings.
Agave Love is all about sharing the passion and knowledge of Mexican agave spirits amongst growers, producers, bartenders, spirit professionals and like-minded enthuasiasts. With presentations set to be given on this tasty topic by Tequila Ambassadors of Europe and America (best job ever!) as well as other industry experts, we’re bound to get tutored in tequila trivia whilst enjoying an accompanying drink or two! With almost 50 different sessions lined up over the two days at a range of Sydney’s best bars, our schedule is already looking pretty full and muchos satisfying!
Agave Central will be located at the National Art School where distributors and agencies will have stalls set up so we can see, taste and learn about an array of Mexican spirits, such as our favourite Sierra Tequila (you know, the one with the sombrero!), and put our new found knowledge into action.
As for us, we’ll be swinging by bar Low 302 to partake in Sierra Tequila and mezcal tastings (Sunday, midday) before upping the ante in the kitchen when we learn how to cook with tequila and mezcal (now we’re talking!) at Hello Sailor. Darlinghurst bar, Cliff Dive, promises some Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling action at the after party which we are understandably super excited about.
With mixology, tequila history demos and other shenanigans such as ‘tequila like wine’ sessions (potentially dangerous) at Casoni, Shady Pines and Bondi’s Mr. Moustache, this two day event is set to be both informative and a helluva lot of fun!
Tickets to Agave Love sessions are limited due to the personalised and intimate environments of each location so we recommend getting in quick to make sure you’ve got yourself a spot up at the bar front and centre. See you there, amigos!
