We had an inkling that mezcal might be making waves in Sydney this year. It seems the legendary tequila trio behind Tio’s—Alex Dowd, Jeremy Blackmore and Alex "Happy" Gilmour—were already on to a good thing with this mysterious, rare and seriously delicious spirit from rural Mexico.
As well as opening a dedicated mezcal bar (Cantina OK!), the Tio’s crew have also brought back their one-day-only ode to tequila’s smokier sibling: the Mezcal Mini-Fest. For its fourth year running, the festival will offer up the opportunity to sip some truly unique spirits from Australia’s best artisanal importers, as well as to discuss all things agave with some of the most knowledgable brains in the country.
Part mezcal expose, part Tio’s-style party, there’ll also be Mexican streetfood care of Rosa Cienfuegos from La Casa Latina and Tamaleria.
