With one in three people currently living with mental illness, events like this one are of ‘paramount’ importance…
Paramount Recreation Club (see what we did there), the serene rooftop health sanctuary in Surry Hills, is hosting a festival entirely dedicated to mental health and mindfulness.
Throughout the first week of spring (that’s this Saturday, FYI), the ‘Mental as Anything’ festival will host a series of workshops, talks, meditations, classes and other special events, all on the gorgeous and sunny Paramount House rooftop.
Many of the events are free and are designed to get you thinking about how you can truly live your best life—not just focusing on your physical health, but mental and social health, too.
Think sonic yin yoga workshops exploring the healing power of Tibetan singing bowls, workshops on the everyday magic of meditation, or on managing stress and anxiety with A-SPACE. There'll be a conversation on our endless pursuit of happiness with The School of Life, and you can also let loose with the dance legends at Groove Therapy.
This all-inclusive approach to health and wellbeing is what Paramount Rec Club is all about. We chatted with Matt Lennon, Paramount’s brand manager, about the club’s ethos and why mental health is so important to them.
“Mental health is something we think everyone should be thinking about. Depression will be the number one disease in the western world by 2020, dementia number three,” explained Matt.
“We’re conscious that as a health club, it’s not enough to simply offer a program that benefits the physical body…in order to truly benefit our members and our community, we need to be thinking about their mental and social health too.”
With the first events kicking off this Saturday, there’s no better time to start doing things that make you happier.
