Looks like American fast food is having a major moment in Sydney right now. Bags of hot pink spicy cheese puffs otherwise known as Cheetos Flamin’ Hot descended from the heavens in August, popping up at service stations and as flavour inspiration for limited-edition fried chicken menus.
The next US fast food slash junk food icon to drop in and around Sydney will be Taco Bell. There have been whispers of the Mexican chain’s imminent Aussie takeover since late 2017 and a set of relatively quiet store openings in Brisbane. We recently caught wind of Taco Bell outlets opening in Melbourne sometime this summer—but it seems Sydney has pipped Melbourne at the post this time around.
Having announced it will be opening two outposts in and around Sydney with one store set to drop in Blacktown and the other in Newcastle, Taco Bell's first NSW opening is only days away. Yes, your Tex Mex dreams are right around the corner, complete with all the Crunchwrap Supreme you can handle.
Opening its doors Tuesday 26 November, Taco Bell's Newcastle store will be churning out all the Tex-Mex goods in Newcastle's west at Jesmond Central. Plus, if you're an absolute fiend for the good stuff and get yourself to the grand opening, you'll score limited-edition merchandise and (possibly) an entire years-worth of food from the nachos mecca.
As for what to expect on the menu, Taco Bell's top hits (including the Crunchwrap) are all included. That's burritos, stacked nachos and "Snackaritos" like the "Beefy Cheesy Burrito".
If you're dining in, there'll be craft beers and frozen margaritas to wash down your cheesy quesadillas.
Precise opening dates are still to come, so stay tuned.
For now though, you'll want to spice up your life with these jalapeno-infused margaritas.
