The Best Workouts To Try In February

By Lucy Cook
5th Feb 2015

January is over, which means holidays and excuses are over. It’s time to get back on the wagon and get in shape. These are some new and different workouts we’ve found at our favourite Sydney fitness studios to get you back on the fitness track.

KX Pilates

Surry Hills
Sydney pilates studios, KX Pilates are all about creating a really intense workout in less time. KX Pilates classes prescribe a mix of high intensity and body toning exercised to create a power workout in just 50 minutes that increases flexibility, balance, and coordination, so you can spend less time in lycra and more time enjoying life! Sounds good to us. If you're a newbie, take them up on the 5 classes for $50 offer that is guaranteed to have you hooked on that burn in no time!

Bondi Beach
For the reluctant exerciser with a passion for Madonna, Retrosweat will be your new favourite church and gym—it’s the most fun you can have working out. Retrosweat is a 1980s-style freestyle aerobic routine based on the original VHS workouts made famous by the likes of Jane Fonda and Cher. Smash out some sweet moves to 12 classic ‘80s grooves that change weekly and you’ll be having so much fun you wont even think about all the calories you’re burning. If I could turn back time, if I could find a way, I’d do Retrosweat everyday… (sorry).

No Lights No Lycra

Newtown and Bondi
You know that sappy phrase, ‘dance like no-ones watching’? Well, that’s exactly what No Lights No Lycra is for. Go to the location, turn down the lights, turn up the music, and let loose! We don’t need an excuse to boogie at the best of times, but without wandering eyes judging your Beyoncé impressions, you can go full throttle, making it a liberating, and surprisingly tiring, workout. There are now two No Lights No Lycra locations across Sydney, in Bondi and Newtown, so what are you waiting for?

The Barre Studio

Sydney CBD
Sydney barre studio, Barre Attack is a fun mix of classic techniques from pilates, ballet, and general fitness, set to pumping beats. The Barre Studio provides a serious all over body workout with special attention to the dreaded problem areas—legs, bottom, thighs, and arms! Take the girls for a social, energetic fitness date that caters to all fitness levels. Bonus: the instructors at The Barre Studio are super friendly and helpful, so you’ll feel right at home!

Scenic Cycle

Sydney CBD
Scenic Cycle is an indoor cycling studio in Sydney that takes riders on a incredible journey through some of the most spectacular cycling routes throughout the world. Attending a class at Scenic Cycle is an out-of-body experience and an awesome workout—you’ll truly feel as though you’re cycling in the real world!

Dance Central

Surry Hills
Sydney fitness studio, Dance Central offers an extensive range of dance classes and workshops for adults and teenagers. Styles include Hip Hop, Funk, Salsa, Bollywood, Dancehall, Belly Dance, Break Dance, Burlesque, Samba, Popping, Showgirl, Booty Dance, Tahitian Dance, Hula-hoop (we’re in!) and more, so there is surely something to suit every mood and inclination.

P.E. Dept.

Potts Point
Located in the heart of Potts Point, Sydney gym, P.E Dept. offers a dedicated weights area, a suite of state-of-the-art cardio equipment, and a funky group fitness studio. P.E. Dept. is not your ordinary gym (unless your ordinary gym is designed by architectural firm, BKH and boasts the latest weights and cardio equipment, as well as a staff of highly experienced and motivating personal trainers and fitness instructors, of course…). If you want to get serious about your fitness—P.E. Dept. is where you want to be.
