We’re calling it; there is nothing more fabulous, more utterly divine (not to mention delicious) than a long lunch. You know the ones, where the hours roll by, lunchtime turns in to late afternoon, and you’ve achieved one mighty fine food coma.

A long lunch with the girls (or the gents, because, let’s face it boys, we know you’re into it too), is The Urban List’s favourite way to dine and CHISWICK is not one, but two, of our favourite places to do it with their CHISWICK Woollahra and CHISWICK at the Gallery venues.

With this in mind, we teamed up with the masters of the long lunch to give you five golden rules to create the perfect long lunch experience every single time.

#1 Set The Vibe

Okay guys, we cannot stress this one enough, you must always choose your venue wisely. You’re going to be here a while which means the following need some careful consideration: the view, the décor, even the background music. The venue ultimately sets the scene for all the hours (and Instagrams) that lie ahead, so ask yourself, will I happily spend four or more hours of my life here? If the answer is yes, lock it in straight away.

#2 Perfect The Art Of Day Drinking

A long lunch, especially at CHISWICK, is a marathon not a sprint. Each moment of the day should be savoured so it’s always best to kick things off with a cocktail or some bubbles and you can never go wrong with the CHISWICK Gimlet. Next comes wine, which should be paired with each course, and we suggest you start with a white then work your way through to red, before you round things out with a caffeine hit. Espresso martini anyone?!

#3 Sharing Is Caring

Nothing says “I love you” like sharing a long lunch. But, a word to the wise, order enough so that the sharing is enjoyable and not a fight to the death for their signature Lamb dish from Matt Moran’s family farm. Remember, the more friends you dine with, the more stomachs you need to fill so always over order. And most importantly, be open to trying new things.

#4 Treat Yourself

Ladies and gents this is your cheat day. We have it on good authority that long lunch calories don’t count, so you in fact owe it to yourself, to treat yourself. Choose something that whips those buds into a frenzy, like the something you’ve never had before, perhaps the CHISWICK vitello tonnato with sebbago crisp from CHISWICK at the Gallery or something oh so decadent you just can’t possibly say no like the woodfired Morton Bay bug with basil pesto from CHISWICK Woollahra. All those sad desk lunches, those steamed veggies with tuna, were leading you to this moment.

#5 There's Always Room For Dessert

As true as it is in life, it is just as true when it comes to a long lunch. Refer back to rules 3 and 4 as a guide and make sure there are many, many spoons because you will need to try everything, like their mouth watering pavlova complete with yoghurt mousse and rubarb ripple at Woollahra or the decadent CHISWICK chocolate bounty at the Gallery.
