8 of the Best Little Black Dresses

Oh, the LBD. It’s been a wardrobe staple since we can remember and for good reason, too. You can dress it up, dress it down, and wear it multiple days in a row without anyone really knowing if you cleverly pair it with different accessories (or is that just us?).

Add some black ankle boots and a leather jacket for a bit of city cool, or heels and a bright clutch for Friday night draanks—you can go either way with an LBD and that’s why we love them so. Here are eight of our faves right now…

#1 Pleats, Please!

The cut of this Victoria, Victoria Beckham Pleated crepe di chine mini dress is so comfortably loose that you can have that last piece of pizza without worrying about that food-baby bump. But seriously, this dress is perfect for day or low-key evening events and is one of those special dresses you can just thrown on and look effortlessly stylish.

#2 Slip-Tastic

Remember the days when wearing slips as dresses was a thing (we can all thank Courtney Love for that)? Welllll, those days are back… Sort of. This season, slips are more dresses than underwear (thankfully) and blend pretty and cool together perfectly. We love this Christopher Esber Wyatt ribbed cami dress with its sheer underlay and low-but-not-too-low V-neckline.

#3 Flares: Not Just For Pants

Well, isn’t this a bit of fun? Sure, it’s classic and black, but the flared, free-flowing skirt just turns the whole thing into a party. Wear this Camilla & Marc Meadowlark dress with a chunky necklace and some cute heels and you’re onto a winner.

#4 Leather Love

Some leather dresses look boxy and uncomfortable, however bul’s Aultbea dress is made from sheep leather and is wonderfully soft and easy to wear. We can see this dress getting rocked at an art gallery opening paired with a glass of red, or casually worn for a dinner out with friends.

#5 Oversized, Not Overdressed

Isabel Marant has the whole cool French thing down pat. This oversized cotton dress with its crocheted panels and organza ruffles adds an element of pretty to the whole look without being too pretty. Perfect for work when you’re going straight out for knock offs, or worn casually during the day, it’ll be a welcome addition to your wardrobe.

#6 The New Skater

We pretty much love everything that Lover do, and this linear splice mini dress is certainly up there with our fave LBDs. It looks ridiculously cool with a leather jacket and dresses up and down so easily. The flared skirt and patterned top make this dress a little bit different, and we love that.

#7 Tee Time

So the thing we love about tee dresses is that they are super comfortable (akin to wearing an oversized sleeping shirt to bed), but unlike your old bed shirt, you can wear these out of the house and look good/not crazy. The Scanlan Theodore mélange tee dress has a ruffled hem and grey detailing on the sleeve, which elevates it from simple tee to stylish tee.

#8 Back Talk

It’s all about the open back with the Dion Lee Line II mini dress! This is one gorgeous (and a wee bit sexy) LBD that’s ideal for evening soirees and the like. The cutaway detailing on the shoulders and the high neckline, make it an interesting dress from both the front and the back.
