It’s the country’s first nation-wide, 24-hour blood drive: Bloody Great Friday. A veritable vampire’s fantasy taking place in Melbourne, Sydney and Bris from 7pm tonight (13 June) to 7pm tomorrow (14 June).
But there’s more to this story than just giving your plasma-rich blood cells to a good cause. You also get something in return. Red Cross are teaming up with hot chefs all over the country to sweeten the deal.
In Brisbane that means FREE Messina gelato. The guys are whipping up a new custom flavour (of course), called Abso-Bloody-Lutely. It’s made from blood-orange cheesecake gelato, red velvet cake and raspberry puree. Sweet lord…
Brisbane donors are also getting a special menu from Richard Ousby (the former executive chef at Stokehouse). Richard is putting on a ‘donor’ kebab (lol) with pulled pork, salt-and-vinegar vegetable chips (!!) and whipped cheese dip.
Whipped cheese and healthy arteries don’t exactly go hand-in-hand, but we’re not one to quibble.
You can also expect live entertainment at the Brisbane Donor Centre, which is at 288 Edward Street in the CBD. The tunes kick off from 3pm on Friday. There’s parking available if you don’t feel like training it.
This thing is bleed meets greed, and we’re okay with it.
Where: 288 Edward St, CBD
When: 7pm 13 June – 7pm 14 June

Did you hear the news? Brisbane's getting a pop-up ice skating rink this winter.
