Brownies, I like to think, are the Ryan Goslings of the dessert world. Sure, doughnuts are pretty hot right now—sort of like Jamie Dornan from 50 Shades of Grey; they look hella-great, but two-thirds in you feel a little dirty and ultimately dissatisfied. But the Gos, however, is a classic. All rugged and handsome on the outside, gooey and soft on the inside. Just like a brownie. Mmm… Gosli… I mean brownie!
Tucked down the newly opened Bakery Lane, iconic Brisbane bakers, I Heart Brownies have finally set up permanent digs—cue whooping and cheering across the city!
These guys got us hooked waay back when they were flogging their artisan heart-shaped wares on the Brisbane market scene, so needless to say, we’re pretty damn excited that we can now get our I Heart Brownie fix 7-days a week!
Visit the pretty pink-hued bakery any day of the week and the smell of freshly baked brownies will caress your nostrils and give you butterflies in your belly (we like to think we’d react the same upon smelling Ryan Gosling, too). Flavours range from their sell-out gooey-centred Salted Caramel, to Jaffa, Turkish Delight, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Coconut and Cherry, plus the odd special thrown in for good measure. What’s more, all their brownies are gluten-free. Choosing is HARD.
All this deciding will certainly make you thirsty, so we suggest pulling up a chair in the laneway’s courtyard, order a coffee, tea or milkshake (made using their very own house-made crafted syrups) and indulge in a serious sugar hit. I mean, if you’re going to have a cheat day, you may as well go the whole hog, right?
