Google’s New Earbuds Can Translate 40 Languages In Real Time

You know that feeling you get when you meet someone who can speak more than one language? It's part awe, part pure jealousy and part self-hatred for failing your high-school French exams. Well, that feeling is about to be a thing of the past because Google is just quietly changing the world. Yep, Google's Pixel Buds are about to make having a conversation with someone who is speaking a completely different language to you a reality.

Google Translate is built into the wireless earbuds, so all you need to do is tap the right earbud to activate the Google Assistant. I mean, how many assistants do you know that can help their boss speak a new language?

The earbuds will pick up the voice of someone standing close by and translate to English, then if you want to speak back to them, you speak in English and your phone will translate whatever you said to their native tongue. Magic.

The only catch—you'll need the new Google Pixel 2 phone to use the translation feature. But from the looks of things, that phone looks pretty schmick, and it'll be worth it next time you're trying to ask for directions in South America.
