We’d be pointing out the obvious if we said, ‘Brisbane’s having a total burger moment’. We get it. We all get it; we can’t get enough of ‘dem buns…
But, and this is a big ‘but’, we’re also a paradoxical bunch of fitness-obsessed, clean eating, smoothie-guzzling gym-goers, and we love to #nurture our bodies (on the days we’re not eating our body weight in French fries, of course…).
Poke bowls are the darlings of the foodie world in Brisbane right now; full of veggies and heart-healthy goodies, they’re filling, and definitely NOT a burg (your waistline will thank you). So, it’s really pretty perfect timing wouldn’t you say, that newbie restaurant, Cheeky Poke Bar is opening this Friday!
Firstly, Cheeky Poke Bar will have you frothing over its fit-out: all sleek lines, moody navy walls paired with pale leather booths, washed wood and stone tables and brushed gold accents. Located in the new Haven development, this chic about-face is unsurprising (the entire precinct is classy AF); Cheeky is what adulting looks like. And god, is it beautiful.
Décor aside, Cheeky’s menu really sets it apart: their signature poke bowls use some of the finest meat and fish cuts (really playing on that luxe sashimi base), are loaded with stellar ingredients like black or coconut and turmeric rice, 64-degree eggs, taro crisp, puffed rice and togarashi, and are beautifully presented, creating some truly unique flavour combos.
You can also MYO bowl if you know exactly what you’re after, and Cheeky can even serve up their poke in edible bowls. Overachievers…
Aside from poke, they have also put their own spin on tacos; enter, nori tacos! What's the big deal about these black-shelled tacos? Well, aside form being probably one of the most delicious things you'll eat (like, ever) their wonton and nori shells are made on the daily, for peak fresh vibes—and that crunch, though! Cheeky also do a fine selection of miso soups using their house-made bone broth, plus a heavenly selection of kakigori (that’s shaved milk ice, guys) for all you sweet tooths out there (tip: go the mango kakigori with milk ice, topped with condensed milk, mango cheeks, dusted mocha ice cream and coconut flakes—honestly, it’s like summer in a bowl).
Add to that some dangerously good cocktails (make yours the Cheeky Collins) and you’ve got yourself far more than 'just another a healthy take-out' joint. This is new-wave Brisbane dining; a little bit grown up that gives our southern sisters a serious run for their money—and we love it!
