Each month one member of The Urban List team will be sharing their current obsessions, and—shock—not all of it’s edible!
This month, Brisbane Communications Executive Desta Cullen exposes her must-haves and lust-haves to the world; from cool-as Melbourne rooftop glamping, spiced chais to the best haircuts a girl could ask for!
Nixon Facet Watch
The statement watch is definitely a thing, and I’m missing out without this in my daily wardrobe. If I’m going to be looking at my watch all day, I want to be pretty.
Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag
The lust is so strong it hurts. I know this is very much a first world problem, but these bags sell out before they are even restocked, and I can’t compete with the Internet hordes. I’m highly suspicious that this is in fact a ploy by the NY cool-gals behind the brand to create buzz, and let me tell you—it’s working.
Snapchat’s here to stay, apparently, so I better stop writing it off. And maybe I’m showing my age but I’m willing to admit when I need get my learning on. Check out my attempts by following us on Snapchat (theurbanlist)!
Mojave Ghost EDP at Mecca Cosmetica
Actually, anything by Byredo is the best, but I particularly want to bathe in Mojave Ghost. Warm and floral, I can almost feel the desert wind on my face. Sometimes I go in to Mecca Cosmetica and just stand there looking at it, imagining how it would look on my bathroom shelf. The Secret taught me everything I know about the power of visualization (and how to be a weirdo, apparently).
Organic Indian Masala from West End Tea Co.
Brr, it’s cold in here. Well, cold for Queensland. Which really just means sub-20, but I’ve acclimatised to this perpetually temperate weather, and there’s nothing like a cup of Organic Indian Masala from the local and tea-loving ladies behind West End Tea Co. to warm the afternoon.
St Jerome’s – The Hotel
Taking the rooftop trend one step further, St Jerome’s has out-glamped the glampers by putting the cutest, most well-appointed tee pees on a rooftop in the heart of Melbourne. Upping the hipster ante, there’s beer included (by Temple Brewing Co, no less), and they’ll deliver sliders right to your door. Plus, the beds are better than mine at home. I want to stay forever.
Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom Salve
I am a coconut tragic. I’ll use coconut-scented sunscreen to trick myself I’m on holidays (I’m also clearly a loser, but that’s a story for another day), I douse my hair in coconut oil and sometimes use it for cooking. I blame it on my tropical beginnings. Either way, it was love at first Internet-shopping-sight with the Coconut Balm Dotcom from beauty wunderkinds, Glossier.
Rosé and Chinese at Happy Boy
Hidden away in a Spring Hill converted warehouse, Happy Boy dishes up warming bowlfuls of unpretentious, provincial Chinese food with a neat (and very tasty) wine selection to choose from. Rose is my drink of choice currently, and Happy Boy has a dry variety I am in love with.
House of Cards on Netflix
A bit late to the game, but I’ve been binge watching Netflix like nobody’s business and House of Cards is essential viewing. Equally terrifying and inspiring, Claire Underwood is one of the most complex female characters I’ve come across in a long time, and I love her.
