In the spirit of the festive season, we’re here to bring you a little cheer this Friday morning. Cam and Jordy Votan, owners of fave Brisbane institution, Happy Boy have long had the foresight to transform the original location of HB (after the restaurant’s move to East St in Spring Hill), into another cracking dining venture. Rumours started swirling, and us hungry vultures were waiting for what the duo would serve up next.
And, heads, up; it’s not Chinese…
Not one to rest on their laurels, they’ve only gone and opened Italian Food Restaurant! Yep, the boys have gone and turned their hand to Italian—and we’re not complaining!
With a soft launch last night in Spring Hill, Italian Food Restaurant is all about the tradition of sharing. Dishes on the menu call out their Italian region’s origin, and are delightfully un-fussy.
Smaller dishes comprise of pistachio arancino, carpaccio, meaty salads and some hearty sides (including pumpkin and potatoes). Pasta, you’ll be happy to hear, is the hero of IFR’s menu; ricotta-filled ravioli with a beef and pork ragu, risotto of broccoli, broccolini and mozzarella will satisfy the carb-loaders among you, while the beef flank with salsa verde, fried octopus with blood orange and chickpea, and their soon-to-be iconic roast chicken are absolute must-trys.
Oh, and of course there’s tiramisu…
Italian Food Restaurant will be open Thursdays and Friday for dinner until the new year. So get there.
