Portside Wharf has welcomed a little pocket of sunshine to its trendy inner circle. Embracing an endless summer, Pineapple Express cafe serves all-day health kicks in the form of acai bowls, super smoothies and protein-packed pancakes.

The cosy space is like stepping inside a light-washed Queenslander, with geometric planters and pendant bulbs draped in front of a wall-sized Volkswagen Beetle portrait. Don’t be alarmed if you start uttering phrases like ‘righteous’ and ‘namaste’.

Pineapple Express will whip you into shape with their scope of raw, gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, vegan-friendly, paleo-approved, high-protein and antioxidant-infused treats. The cafe’s slogan—“good for your insides”—is no empty promise.

Everything on offer is healthy, whole and jam-packed with flavour. In addition to five different acai bowls (which will set you back just 12 big ones), the all-day breakfast menu includes eggs benny with Matcha-naise and pulled pork, dukka-encrusted poached eggs with haloumi- and bacon-wrapped asparagus, and a colourful, karmic Green Breakfast Bowl.

Pineapple Express’ newly launched lunch menu is lead by lettuce-wrapped ‘naked burgers’, ribbons of zucchini pasta and an array of daily salads and wraps, keeping yummy mummies, gym junkies and health-conscious corporate types around Hamilton well taken care of.

You can grab guilt-free decadence by the bowlful. Organic CocoWhip soft-serve—plain or flavoured—meets Tim Tam chunks and caramel sauce, Peanut Butter Cups and sticky fudge, and Apple Crumble for desserts that require no soul-searching.

Substantial smoothie jars like the banana-heavy, chia-flecked King Kong and cacao-riffic Charlie Brown are almost a meal in their own right, and also come in kid sizes for little members of the clean eating clique.

The Acai Anti Blast (acai, blueberries, banana, pineapple, coconut oil, coconut water and raspberries) will give your immune system superpowers, while fresh juices pumped with spinach, kale, carrot and lemon are guaranteed to nip those winter sniffles in the bud.

Pineapple Express is open from 5:30am daily, closing at 5pm Sunday to Thursday and 9:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The kitchen fires up from 7am to 2pm daily.
