Gold Coast’s iconic nightlife and touristy precinct is about to get a whole lot cooler. Why? Because Surfers Paradise is soon to welcome an entirely new foodie destination dedicated to Asian street food. Jackpot!
Adding to the Coast’s ever-evolving dining districts, work is currently underway to develop a laneway off Orchid Avenue and into a bustling hawker-style market reminiscent of those in Asia.
Named 8 Street, the market will cover 2,000 square meters and have seating for over 1,000 hungry peeps. While they’re not disclosing specific vendors just yet, we can confirm 8 Street will feature six permanent Asian restaurants and 30+ street food stalls, plus a freakin’ Asian beer and sake bar. See, we told you it was massive.
In case your mouth isn’t already watering, be prepared for cuisine representations from Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, plus more, and flavour-packed eats like BBQ duck, pho, bi bim bap, banh mi, rice paper rolls, laksa, ramen, roti, rice noodle soups, dumplings and dim sum with authentic chefs bringing their traditions and skills from the mother countries. With lots of dark wood, hanging paper lanterns, oriental styling, steaming woks, flaming barbecues, wafting aromas and chatter from diners, it’s sure to be sensory overload and, even better, cheap! Your late night post-clubbing options never looked so good.
Due to open late March/early April, we reckon 8 Street is going to be pretty epic—and another huge boost for Gold Coast’s rep as the fastest growing foodie market in the country (if we do claim so ourselves).
