best soup on the Gold Coast

Choosing a favourite soup is like choosing your favourite child.

So, it’s lucky the Gold Coast has bucket loads on offer. Soups, that is. With the mornings now a little chillier, but not completely freezing (thanks GC), it’s time to drown your winter blues in soup and begin scraping the barrel of every pot in sight.

“No soup for you” is not something you’re likely to hear around these parts—unless you don’t hop aboard the soup train early enough! Shove your S&P shakers in your pocket and get amongst these seasonal heart throbs.

Here’s our piping hot list of the best soups on the Gold Coast to keep you warm this winter.

Elk Espresso

From Blueberry panna cotta and red velvet french toast, to Lindt mocha’s and—wait for it—soup! Elk Espresso is always mixing up their seasonal menus and surprise surprise, they’ve done it again, just in time for the cooler months. Check out their rich butternut pumpkin, walnut dukkah and crispy kale bowls of bliss. Never go another soup deprived day in your life.

Can Tho

Runaway Bay

Reckon you can’t have your soup and eat it too? You Can Tho. Feast on this famous Pho beef noodle soup, and it may make you want to run away to Runaway Bay and bask in the sunshine (with your soup) all day long. And we totally wouldn’t blame you.

Mr Bengel

Palm Beach

Mr Bengel is turning up the heat this soup season. With their slurp-worthy pot of goodness changing weekly, you can expect traditionally inspired flavours such as hearty roasted potato and leek as well as pea and ham. Mr B is also introducing exciting new variations like seductive Moroccan carrot and homely red lentil brews laced with coconut. Pardon the drool. With most soups ticking vegan and vegetarian boxes, you’ll feel right at home dunking crispy sourdough in your generously hot cup or bowl-o-fun this winter.

Après Surf

Mermaid Beach

Checking out Après Surf’s daily specials is a favourite past time of ours.  When these fellas aren’t dishing up wings and dumplings, they’re serving out lashings of pork belly ramen by the gallon. A juicy tale of when broth meets noodle, this is a love affair you’ll be tipping your hat to. And then filling your hat with and side stepping out the door. On the menu all week long, you’ll catch this bad boy for $10 every Wednesday.

Nobby Beach

Boasting veggies galore and singing to the tune of "this soup is sexy," BSKT’s heart warming Spicy Korean Stew is a clever concoction on their winter menu. A medley of oyster mushrooms, bean sprouts, shallots, pac choy, red peppers and your choice of chicken or tofu, you’ll want to stick your whole face in this soupy special.

The Sandwich Bros

Surfers Paradise

For soup that’s cheap as chips, we’re talking $8 with a side of crusty baguette, you can’t go past The Sandwich Bros in Surfers. With specials changing up daily, you’ll be scooping your heart out or, heck, drinking straight from the bowl for these sumptuous selections. Thai sweet potato and lentil is a crowd favourite, so get in quick to peruse their tasty menu or go the full hog and devour one of their infamous toasted sangas with your soup sitting.

The Fish House

Burleigh Heads

If you’ve managed to scoot away from the extravagant seafood options that The Fish House has on offer, then aw man, you’re in for a soupy surprise.  Their simple lemony fish soup with decadent hapuka from Tassie is brewed with dill and extra virgin olive oil. This one’s for the serious soup lover with a refined taste.

Thaiger Cafe

Haven’t checked out Thaiger in Labrador yet? You’re definitely missing out. Amidst their menu of fresh rice paper rolls, a rainbow of delectable curries and crispy pork belly delights, you’ll find a humble soup menu to make your eyes glow. Classic Tom Yum Goong with its sweet and sour prawns, Thai herbs, mushrooms and coriander (if you’re a coriander hater, you’re just going to have to deal with it), or check out the Tom Khai Gai, loaded with coconut chicken and a broth that is pure liquid gold.

Groove Cafe

If you’re as keen as a mung bean, you’re probably heading to Tugun for a paddle in the wee hours of a winter’s morn’. So, once you’ve shaken off those icy waves, you’ll need to warm up, right? Wrong! No, actually you were right. Swagger into Groove Cafe for your dose of soup seduction with daily specials like spicy Thai Pumpkin Soup to bring you back to life. Nothing beats licking the salt off your lips and digging into a hot chunky souuuuuuuup!

So, let that soup drip down your chin in all its glory. See ya ladle!
