Get ready, Gold Coast! This weekend is looking like another big one. Here are five awesome things to do on the Gold Coast to make the most of this ridiculously fine weather they call ‘winter’.
Friday 11 August
Never.Ever.Studio Laneway Night Market
If this market doesn’t sound familiar, it’s probably because it only first popped up in June. This sporadic but delightful designer sample and vintage rummage market is hosted inside Mermaid’s new photographic and styling space, Never.Ever.Studio, and coordinated by Laneway Official. Kicking off from 6pm 'til late, check it out for seriously good pre-loved fashion finds, laneway films, food truck eats, live music and a hip crowd—all under twinkling lights.
Saturday 12 August
The Green Marquee Eco Markets
We’ve got one damn fine excuse to jump in the car and plunge head first into the gorgeous Currumbin Valley this weekend. The Green Marquee Eco Markets (8:30am to 1:30pm) is one of the Coast’s newest market offerings and is all about bringing together creators and doers who go above and beyond in the sustainability stakes. Expect all the feel-good community vibes as you wander around market stalls adorned with reclaimed timber furniture and artefacts, to handmade jewellery, organic baby accessories, textiles, ceramics, vegan skincare, hanging plants, farm fresh produce and natural ice creams; plus delish food trucks, live music, Eco Explorer activities for the kids and wholefoods cooking workshops for the adults. Bless!
Sunday 13 August
Black Hops Brewery’s Inaugural Sunday Session
Craft beer lovers, this is something worth celebrating! After patiently waiting for an extended Sunday trading license for oh, you know, only a half-year or so, the day has officially arrived. Black Hops, your friendly neighbourhood brewery, is now open Sundays and they’ll be toasting a few frothy ones this weekend to mark the occasion. Open from 12pm to 6pm this Sunday, Ze Pickle’s food truck is lined up plus live music and, of course, all your hoppy faves. You know what that also means? If you’re eager to do a coordinated Gold Coast brewery hopping expedition, you can now hit Black Hops, Burleigh Brewing and Balter on Fridays AND Sundays. Winning!
LC Sundays Vegan Night Market
Given the resounding popularity, Gold Coast’s adorable new and socially conscious vegan market has just expanded to bi-weekly! Lovechild Place’s LC Sundays night market (3pm to 8pm) will bring the plant-loving vibes to August, gathering various vegan vendors selling eats and treats that’ll make any foodie weak in the knees. Add to that, DJ tunes, animal product-free fashion threads, plants, flowers and all the warm and fuzzy feels.
Monday 14 August
Granted this new event is happening on Monday, though we want you to know about the Coast’s latest offering that’ll keep those weekend vibes rolling. These beginner hip hop dance classes are on a mission to prove that everybody (and we mean everybody) can dance. Catering for all skill levels, whether you’re the next Michael Jackson or perhaps more like Bambi on ice, Groove Therapy is a safe space where you can really let loose. After launching in Sydney, Melbourne and further afield, their first Gold Coast event is happening at The Craft Parlour this Monday night. The music will be vibing and the lights will be dimmed so you can dance like nobody is watching. Tickets are $20 (bookings essential) with a discount offered should you buy a pass of five or 10 tickets. Miss the inaugural event? They’ll be back every Monday evening for the foreseeable future, so go get your groove on!
