We’re Changing Our Name, Not Who We Are

Guys, we’ve got some exciting news to share with you!

It’s kind of important so you might wanna hit pause on that doco you’re watching, pour yourself a wine (and us too, while you’re at it) and settle in for the read.

Let’s start where all good stories kick off… the beginning.

We launched Metropolist in late 2015 with hearts full of excitement and guts full of passion. We saw a gap in the market to bring you, and your out-of-town visitors, the best of all things Gold Coast in a fun, relatable, and totally portable way via a sleek online platform that locals trust, and would be proud to recommend to their friends.

Fast forward to early 2017, and with almost 18 months under our Metropolist belts, and 100k unique monthly visitors, we think we’ve done a pretty fine job at helping you discover epic new openings, cute coffee joints, the coolest events across the region, hikes that should be on your bucket list, and even where you can find essential fitness classes, like… beer yoga. Through these stories, we’ve been able to support the local businesses that we hand-on-heart love to bits. It’s been a win-win. But all this, you probably already know.

So, now, to something you might not know—we haven’t done it alone. Other than our amazing readers, we have had the amazing support and guidance of our mother brand, The Urban List.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because it is. The Urban List is the go-to digital guide for cities across Australia and New Zealand, dishing up hand-selected tips and trends to over 2.4 million readers. You might’ve stumbled on it during your last trip to Brisbane when hunting for a hidden wine bar, or perhaps you landed on the Sydney site when your friend tagged you on a FB post about the best camping spots.

As time has gone on, we’ve realised that we are working towards the same goal; to connect locals and travellers with the best of the best in their city. And we want people to know that wherever they go, there is one brand they can look to for local recommendations, not two. So, we’ve decided to bring the Gold Coast officially under The Urban List banner!

This means we’re saying goodbye to the Metropolist name, but don’t worry, we’ll still be the same locals, delivering the same content, from the same place—we’re just going to be doing it under a different name. And we’re so excited about it!

It also means we’ll get to bring you better content, more often—plus, we’ll be sharing even more local brands and business we think you’re going to love.

We have no plans to stop being that friend who knows something about everything, who figures out what’s happening to that shop on the corner before anyone else has caught wind of it, and who lives to tell you where to find the best tacos on the Gold Coast. Because that is the stuff we breathe. Not air, tacos.

The new site and name change will start rolling out over the next few weeks, but we wanted you lot to be the first to know.

We can’t wait to embark on this new adventure with you. It’s going to be pretty spectacular.
