Always wondered how Oprah became the best TV host of all time (we are not worthy)? How Steve Jobs invented ‘Apple’? Or how that awesome burger joint you go to every week came into existence? We’ll let you in on a secret; it wasn’t a fairy godmother granting wishes…
Success is a mindset; if you want it, you have to work for it. But, gee whizz, when you roll up those sleeves of yours, is it worth it! To steer you in the direction of sweet success, here’s 12 things successful people always do to be awesome and kick lots off arse. Start taking notes!
1. They get up early.
Love a lie in? Sorry to break it to you budding entrepreneurs, but it pays to be a morning person. Not only do you get more out of your day—literally—you’re revved up and ready to tackle anything that comes your way. We’re not saying coffee isn’t involved, but setting your alarm for early AM will catch you that worm.
2. They ALWAYS plan their day in advance.
Constantly brushing up on your skills and learning about new things in your chosen fields is key to getting ahead. The world is a big ol’ place, fill your brains!
3. They have the courage to be themselves.
Now, this sounds like an easy one—‘just do you’—but not changing, or allowing other peoples words or perceptions to change you, is easier said than done. In the wise words of Dr. Seuss “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who matter don’t mind and those that mind don’t matter”. Amen, sir.
4. They get shit done.
Everyone has parts of their day they dread, but procrastination won’t get the task at hand completed. Make the most difficult task your first of the day; cross it off your list, and free up that negative headspace with more productive thoughts.
5. They surround themselves with positive influencers.
That pal who’s always negative after a vino or two? The colleague who contradicts seemingly everything you say? No good for your chi. Or, ultimately, your success.
6. They follow their heart.
“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition”. Simple, but true. Thank you, Steve Jobs.
7. They never stop learning.
Managing your time is key if you want to be successful at what you do, be you a CEO of a billion dollar company or making a go of it on your own. Planning your day and prioritising your tasks effectively allows for a much less stressful day.
8. They make to-do lists (just not really long ones!).
Creating a daily task list holds you accountable to how productive you are. Not getting through that long two-pager? Try making a list of all the tasks you can realistically get done in one day, and have a second list for things that will take time.
9. They work out.
Get that heart rate up folks, because a healthy bod equals a healthy mind. If President Barack Obama can find 30 minutes a day, then so can you!
10. They keep track of their progress.
Writing in a journal is common among successful folk; whether it be noting down small achievements along the way, setting regular goals or reflecting upon mistakes made, it’s a great way to document how far you’ve come.
11. They don’t multi-task.
Think you were being more productive by doing two things at once? WRONG. Teach yourself to focus on one thing at a time, and you’ll be surprised at how much more you’ll achieve.
12. They never give up.
Try to see your failures (trust us, there’ll be some) as life lessons. Learn from your mistakes and move on up that ladder.
