Forget far-off European destinations—one of the most culturally rich cities in the world is sitting pretty right here in our own backyard.

While we love Melbourne’s melting pot and Sydney delivers on sensory sites, Perth makes a strong argument for Australia’s cultural hub. With the ultimate mix of good looks, beachside serenity, innovative art (Fringe Festival, we’re looking at you) and gastronomic charm, it’s this underrated sense of cool that’s drawing in all the A-listers from Cardi B to Post Malone.

To help you get a taste of it all, we teamed up with the City of Perth to curate only the most ‘grammable travel itinerary. If Perth isn’t already on your hit list, it will be after this.

Check Into A Dream Hotel

A place to stay can make or break a vacation, and luckily Perth has some of the most comfortable and ‘grammable hotels around. There are plenty of beachside digs with ocean views and impressive inner-city hotels with Perth’s best cultural, dining and entertainment experiences right at your doorstep. Located on James Street in the cultural heart of Perth, you can’t miss Alex Hotel. During the day, hire a bike to explore your surroundings, and at night, kick back on the rooftop garden, outdoor terrace, or communal lounges where they serve artisanal spirits, wine and craft beer.

For a seriously lavish stay, check into QT Perth. Up top there’s an insanely pretty rooftop bar and below is the delicious Santini Grill. The rooms boast industrial glamour with velvet and brass finishes plus a black marble bathroom fully equipped with a freestanding tub. It’s safe to say, upload a few Instagram stories here and your mates will be green with envy back home.

Bend An Elbow

From side street bars to secret speakeasies, it’s no question Perth is teeming with must-visit watering holes. Top of our list? A rooftop garden oasis pouring bespoke cocktails like the Turkish Delight Martini (Jinzu, rose syrup, lemon, peychauds). At Hadiqa, it’s all lush greenery, plush leather seating and Moroccan vibes, making it the perfect backdrop for your next ‘gram.

If you’re looking for a happening vibe, follow the rabbit down the rabbit hole and through the refrigerator doors to Jack Rabbit Slim’s. This bar has everything from live music, spiked milkshakes, a wild dance floor and a 5am quitting time—so you’re guaranteed good times. For a cheeky nightcap, The Standard’s fairy-lit rooftop garden is calling your name. Their drinks menu is extensive, but you can’t visit Perth without trying their Yes Way Rosé or a Midnight Bourbon Sour. It might just change your life.

Treat The Senses

From arts and music to sport and culture, there’s plenty going on in this little corner of the world. The Perth Institute of Contemporary Art have a regular lineup of seriously cool exhibitions and the Art Gallery of Western Australia boasts big name local artists on display as well as one of the largest Indigenous artwork collections in the world.

It’s no secret Perth locals take their footy very seriously, so if you’re ready to ramp up the excitement, grab tickets to a footy game at the brand new Optus Stadium and get amongst the live sporting action. Once night falls, hit up The Sewing Room, Amplifier And Capitol or The Bird for live tunes from upcoming homegrown talent and big international acts. For something totally unique, relive your low-pixel childhood memories at The Nostalgia Box, the world’s first gaming museum.

Fill Your Fork

This small but mighty city has incredible food at every turn and whether you’re in need of breakfast or dessert, Petition Kitchen has something for everyone. Housed within the State Buildings on Barrack Street, this relaxed eatery is bringing fun and quirky dishes made from the best of WA’s seasonal produce and delivered straight to your plate.

Just down the street you’ll discover drool-worthy Southeast Asian street style eats at Apple Daily, a lively eatery named after Hong Kong’s popular daily newspaper. For dinner, their sticky Linley Valley pork ribs are an obvious crowd-favourite. For another late night option, pop into one of Perth’s most beloved inner-city restaurants, Lalla Rookh. Their menu features colourful Italian-inspired eats using local produce like squid ink spaghetti with shark bay crab and grilled Fremantle sardines with smoked mushroom. Delicious.

No Netflix, Just Chill

As one of the most isolated cities in the world, this is the only place where you can skip between white-sand beaches, wineries and national parks, all found within 30 minutes of the CBD. Stroll through the city to the winding Swan River or Kings Park and Botanic Garden before heading to one of Perth’s world-famous beaches for a day of full seaside relaxation. Boasting 80 kilometres of pristine coastline, there’s plenty of beaches to choose from, but one of the best has to be Cottesloe thanks to its turquoise waters. For the traveller in need of some down time, an appointment at award-winning Bodhi J Wellness Spa Retreat will put you in full holiday mode.

What are you waiting for? The destination of your dreams is closer than you think. Start planning your bucket list-worthy escape to Perth today—it’s the perfect choice if you’re seeking a mini-break without dipping into that valuable annual leave.
