This is one of those very Melbourne ideas we wished we thought of first (mostly so we could patent it and make millions).
Cheese High Teas. High Cheeses. Whatever you want to call them—dedicated cheese-themed afternoon teas, swapping out the traditional scones, jam and cream for, oh I dunno, baked camembert and ricotta cannoli.
The Westin Melbourne will be running a series of High Cheese events this month, launching on Monday 11 June. They’re going to run throughout winter, seven days a week, from 4pm. The Westin are bringing the High Tea expertise and silver service—Maker & Monger are bringing the cheese. (And those guys really know their cheese.)
“We’re excited to be collaborating with Maker & Monger on High Cheese, bringing cheese to the forefront, and offering guests something different and warming this winter,” says Westin Executive Chef, Michael Greenlaw.
Here’s a little taste of what you can expect. $70 per person gets you some of the ‘best in show’ cheeses from around the world. Think scones served with creamed Giorgio Cravero Reggiano (the world’s top Reggiano affineur), cheese-spike tiramisu, whole baked Normandy Camembert with mini baguettes, Basil crème fraiche layered brie and sweet nibbles like Holy Goat Organic Skyla strawberry and thyme Mille-Feuille. Phew.
If you want to be a little extra, you can pair your cheese extravaganza with matched wines (by the glass) from Ten Minutes by Tractor, Shaw + Smith, or there’s port from Penfolds.
High Cheese is running every day until 31 August—so you’ve got plenty of time to grow that extra stomach you’ll be needing. Gastrointestinal discomfort be damned—we’re doing this.
