Talking yourself into doing a workout or heading into the gym is not always an easy feat. And whether you like to get down to business with your workout or prefer to make fun your priority, (or somewhere in between), we can all agree that post-workout rush of endorphins makes it worth it every time.

So if you’ve got your own routine or you’re looking to switch things up with something new, you’ve come to the right place—our list of 12 of Melbourne’s best workouts has something for your mind, body and soul.

Good Vibes

Collingwood, Northcote

If patience is your virtue, you may want to check into a Candlelit Yin Yoga class at Good Vibes. Yin Yoga is an ancient practice designed to stretch out the body and work connective fascial tissue, assisting with stress management, energy-boosting and helping balance functions of the body.  You’ll be looking at holding poses anywhere between 4-6 minutes and this class is ideal for all skill levels. With ambience provided by organic beeswax candles, paired with their recycled merino wool blankets, you’ll be wondering why you didn’t attend this class before.

Good Vibes’ Vinyasa Yoga Flow class may be classified as a medium to high-intensity class, but it’s suitable for all levels of experience. The aim of this class is to build internal heat and aid in detoxifying the body, and you can definitely expect to get your heart rate up with this one. Good Vibes have two studio locations, so be sure to check their respective schedules.

Barre Body

CBD, Windsor, South Melbourne, Fitzroy

If you’re looking at giving a Barre workout a go, seriously look no further than Barre Body. Barre Body’s Ballet Barre Conditioning class is known for blending pilates with yoga, and will literally and figuratively have you on your toes. It’s time to let out your inner gracefulness. No holds barred.

What’s better than dancing like nobody’s watching? Dancing (like nobody’s watching) at a Barre Body Dance Cardio class. If you’re looking for a workout that’s equal parts fun and equal parts high intensity, this one’s definitely for you. The class features easy to follow sequences and absolutely no dance experience is required, duh.

Yoga 213

Richmond

You’ve definitely heard of Hip Hop Yoga, but have you ever actually done it? If you’re finally thinking about taking a class, look no further than Yoga 213 in Richmond. The class is focused on a combination of vinyasa yoga flow postures and you can expect hip hop beats from the likes of Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Biggie and more. Oh, and did we mention that it’s followed by an intense abs session? Be prepared.

Rise Nation

South Yarra

The Rise Nation style of working out originated in LA and has made its way down under and into our lives. And thanks to Rise Nation, it’s officially possible to easily mistake a workout room for a nightclub. Each 30-Minute Vertical Climbing HIIT Session utilises a piece of equipment called the Versaclimber, meaning you’re engaging in cardio vertical climbing. Paired with the venue’s state-of-the-art lighting and theatre system, you’re in for a workout like never before.

Humming Puppy

Prahran

Some certainly do like it hot. And if you’re one of those people, sign yourself up to a Foundation Hum class at Humming Puppy, ASAP. Classes are held in rooms normally heated to 27 degrees and we’re serious when we say that the rooms at Humming Puppy literally hum. Each Foundation Hum class incorporates principles of breath-pranayama, movement-asana and awareness-meditation. Beginners and expert level yogis are all welcome to the studio, with this class, in particular, being the recommended place to start for beginners.

If you’re looking to ramp things up, you may want to try out Humming Puppy’s Dynamic Hum class. This class explores more complex transitions, commanding you to challenge yourself both physically and mentally.

All For One

Yarraville

While we take the time to train our bodies, it’s important to take the time to train our minds too. Yarraville-based health studio, All For One offer both 30 and 60-minute Meditation and Mindfulness Classes. Not only will you practice techniques in class, but you’ll also walk away from the class with the skills to implement practical mindfulness strategies into your everyday life.

KX Pilates

Various locations

The ubiquity of KX Pilates just speaks for itself. They’ve got it all down pat, with their workout smarter, not longer mantra being evident in their fast-paced, high intensity, toning workouts which you can smash out in under an hour. A KX Reformer Pilates class fuses elements of traditional reformer pilates with cardio and endurance training for an intense workout… but you probably already know that. The trainers at KX Pilates are super flexible and are able to modify exercises to suit your ability. If it’s your first time at KX, it’s recommended that you start off with a beginner class.

12RND Fitness

Various locations

Have you ever wanted to know what it felt like to battle your way through a 12-round boxing championship? Well, once you take a 12RND boxing workout, you’ll never have to wonder that ever again. Each workout consists of 12, three-minute rounds with 30-second rest intervals. You’ll be done in 45 minutes, high-intensity style.

The Tan Track At The Botanical Gardens

South Yarra

Whether you’re walking, power walking or jogging the track, each time around The Tan always feels like the first time. It’s fair to say that we’re absolutely blessed to have such a beautiful spot in Melbourne and whether you decide to go solo or bring a buddy, there’s never a bad time to hit up The Tan.

Bodhi & Ride

Port Melbourne, CBD, South Yarra

Since opening in 2016, Bodhi & Ride have slowly but surely built their very own cult-level riding tribe. Their Rhythm Ride classes mean two things: sweat and killer playlists. You may come for the workout, but you’ll stay for the tunes. We’re talking Drake, Kanye, Britney Spears, JT and that’s only just the beginning. If that doesn’t sound like the ride of your life, we don’t know what is. Bodhi & Ride have three studios, so be sure to check each location’s specific timetable.

Run Club

Richmond

At Richmond-based treadmill running studio Run Club, their trainer-led classes are designed to build your overall health and fitness through training speed, strength and endurance. Their Express 30 is a short and sharp workout, structured with short intervals, sprints and hills. It’ll all be over before you know it. And you’ll be booking in your next session too before you know it.

Walking Trails

There’s truly nothing like the great outdoors. Luckily for us Melburnians, we’re surrounded by picturesque scenery and stunning bush walks and trails.
