Grab your chilli spoons, Melbourne. This weekend Welcome to Thornbury is launching the city’s first ever hot sauce and chilli festival (sidenote: do these guys just sit around drinking beers and coming up with random, yes slightly awesome, crap? Smart money says yes).
Here’s what you can expect. Super spicy burgers from YOMG, sweat-inducing curry, courtesy of Yo India, and surprise chilli doughnuts from the guys at Dip’d.
There’ll also be an endless cavalcade of local and interstate hot sauces to try, ranging from mild all the way to the Merciless Peppers of Quetzalacatenango. You can pick up a bottle or two at the boutique hot sauce market, which will feature brands like Melbourne Hot Sauce, Grumpy Gary's, Marley's Soul Sauce, Changz Hot Sauce and Señor Chilli.
If you’re really brave, you can try the Hot Pocket—a Welcome to Thornbury cocktail so spicy you have to sign a waver before consumption (presumably to indemnify Welcome to Thornbury for any gastrointestinal issues that may result from drinking pure napalm. Legal verdict: sketchy).
The event is free and runs from 12pm to 11pm, right across the weekend. BYO milk.
Where: Welcome to Thornbury, 520 High St Northcote
When: 12pm – 11pm, Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 August.
