Our favourite purveyor of fine wines, oozy fromage and cocktails complete with cheesy garnishes, Milk the Cow, has sent Team TUL into a tizz with the announcement of a second outpost to open in Carlton. No longer will the inner North miss out of the joys of Milk the Cow's famous cheese flights and dairy-induced dreams.
Opening in November, Milk the Cow Carlton will be located in a double storey building at the top end of Lygon Street that's set to be twice the size of the St Kilda original. Meaning 80 fromage fanatics will be able to sit and indulge in one of life's greatest pleasures at any one time.
Expect a similar cosy European bar feel to the southside Milk the Cow, with an eye watering array of 150 plus artisan cheeses (swoon) and quality drops. While the fitout will have a similar vibe to St Kilda, Carlton will definitely have its own identity. Owner Daniel Verheyen is supervising and designing the fitout himself with the same team that worked on the St Kilda venue. This time the wine racks will be copper instead of silver, and recycled timber and Fibonacci stone will feature throughout. One thing you'll recognise from Milk the Cow St Kilda are the quirky chandeliers made from milking equipment.
Each level at Carlton's Milk the Cow will have its own bar and cheese cabinet, and Head Cheesemonger, Laura Lown, will divide her time between both venues, along with her team of expert cheesemongers.
Milk the Cow will open at 323 Lygon Street in Carlton in November 2014.
