Heads Up, Queen Vic’s Hawker-Style Night Market Returns Next Month

Queen Vic’s Melbourne Winter Night Market just wrapped up a stellar run. And usually, that means Melbourne is cast into a market-less wasteland for several months until QVM gears up for the Summer Night Market in December. Or does it?

Last year, Queen Vic started a new tradition: when Winter Night Market winds down, Hawker 88 fires up.

In case you missed it last year, Hawker 88 is a 6-week, Asian-themed hawker market, running through spring. How is Hawker 88 different to Winter and Summer night markets, you ask? Well, for starters, there’s more seating (thank god), fewer queues (sweet Jesus yes) and a “smaller and more intimate” experience. It's like the best of QVM, minus the dodgy bits. Plus the whole thing is Asian-centric.

So here are the deets: Hawker 88 will run every night from 18 September to 23 October. Expect food like Malay satay, Filipino barbecue, Indian curries and Korean pork belly, plus long communal tables so you don’t have to eat while sitting on a bin like a raccoon.

There’ll be six weekly themes too, running across the festival: Mooncake Festival, Durian Festival, Asian Festival, Korea & Japan Festival, Bali & Boracay Island Night, Diwali Bollywood Night and South East Asia Festival. So get to it.
