What’s Trending In Melbourne Right Now | December

We’ve teamed up with Peroni to bring you our What’s Trending hit list: your monthly guide to maximising life in the city. We’re cutting through the chatter and counting down our top 10 hottest new openings, events, and trending happenings in Melbourne this month, so you won't miss a thing.

It’s all happening in December: From the hottest events to some top-notch eatery openings, we’ve got our finger on the pulse of what’s trending in Melbourne so that you don’t have to. Here’s everything that’s on our radar for November - which ones have you pencilled in the diary?

#1: Portsea Polo – Get Your Tickets Now!

Well worth the trip down the coast, Portsea Polo is the Summer event to be seen at. Relaxed high fashion, free flowing bubbles and beer, and polo ponies! What’s not to love?! Though it’s not taking place until 9 January, you’ll need to be quick to grab tickets if you want to head along.

#2: Rooftop Drinks

Summer is calling and as the weather warms up, what better way to soak up the sun than to kick back on one of Melbourne’s best rooftops with a drink in hand? Madame Brussels, and The Coppersmith Hotel are just a couple of our favourite gems to enjoy a beverage with a view.

#3: Thornbury's Hidden Gems

Head northside and we can guarantee you'll find some of the finest tiny bars in the city in Thornbury. The suburb is going under sommewhat of a transformation lately and we can't get enough of its lowkey vibe. Our pick of the bunch? Joanie's Baretto.

#4: Andy Warhol – Ai Weiwei Opens At The NGV

So much talent in one exhibition! Melburnians are being treated to an artistic collaboration between two of the most influential artists of the 20th and 21st century, Ai Weiwei and Andy Warhol. The exhibition opens at the NGV this December, and you’d be a fool to miss it.

#5: Meatsmith in Fitzroy

Meatsmith is an exciting new butcher and wine merchant in Fitzroy - and also happens to be our new favourite purveyor of top-notch meats. December is the ideal time to poke your head in - they have a dedicated Christmas product list and it’s to die for.

#6: Ceviche = The Perfect Summer Snack!

Ceviche is really rocking our summer socks right now - we can't get enough of this seafood and citrus dish! While Lady Carolina are producing some fantastic specimens, we've found some of the freshest at Captain Baxter by St Kilda's seafront.

#7: Night Markets Are The Best

The night markets last all summer long in Melbourne, thanks to Melbourne food icon, the Queen Victoria Market, and its Wednesday evening series. Not only will you find incredible street food and local produce, you’ll be able to check out the best local bands and songwriters in the market’s beautiful heritage location. Make your next midweek date here.

#8: Your Foodie Antidote To Christmas = Lafayette Fine Foods Hampers

Foodie Hampers are our absolute favourite thing - especially at Christmas time. If you clap eyes on the offering from Lafayette Fine Foods, you’ll see why we’re such big fans – think pistachio cookies, Christmas pudding truffles, macadamia shortbread, and a stack more epic treats.

#9: Lune Croissanterie’s Lune Lab

All is right in the world now that Lune Croissanterie’s Lune Lab has opened. They are also offering you the chance to book a spot at the Lune table where you’ll be treated to one-off creations, experimental pastries, and old Lune favourites.

#10: DIY New Years Eve

There’s so much pressure to celebrate in a lavish way at New Year, so we’ve decided to take a step back and take some tips from the Italians – they seem to know what’s what. Head along to your local deli and stock up on all the best food and booze you can get your hands on in preperation for an amazing New Year's Eve picnic. Invite a few friends over, pop some sweet beats on, and voila! You’re set to welcome 2016 in style.

We're beyond thrilled to partner with Peroni to bring you the What’s Trending series—our monthly guide to the hottest new openings, events, and Instagrammable happenings in Melbourne.
