By Clare Acheson - 10 Jan 2016

We’ve teamed up with Peroni to bring you our What’s Trending hit list: your monthly guide to maximising life in the city. We’re cutting through the chatter and counting down our top 10 hottest new openings, events, and trending happenings in Melbourne this month, so you won't miss a thing.

Happy 2016, Listers! A new year means a new hit-list of incredible things to eat, drink, see, and do in Melbourne. From Melbourne’s cheese meccas to suburban brunch spots, brand new beauty hubs to secret snack bars, here are the top 10 things you should know about this month. How many can you tick off before we hit January 31st?

#1: Aerial Yoga = The Must-Try Fitness Class

Of course, January is all about getting fit after your annual Christmas binge. Looking for the hottest new alternative to your standard yoga class? Check out aerial yoga – the gravity-defying yoga practice that sees you suspended from the ceiling! Head to Studio3 for a fitness routine shake-up.

#2: Magic Mountain Saloon’s Tomato, Zucchini & Mozzarella Salad

Magic Mountain Saloon’s summer salad game is strong, and one of the stand-out eats on its menu has to be the tomato, zucchini and mozarella salad with chilli, basil and cashew crumble. With the perfect combo of fresh fruit and veggies, creamy cheese and seasoning, get ordering this delicious dish, pronto.

#3: Luxe Australia Day BBQs

While Australia Day is more commonly associated with tinnies we wouldn’t touch with a barge pole, this year we’ll be kicking back in style having the most luxe BBQ we can muster. Ditch that ironic tin of VB, stoke your meat smoker, and get feasting on fresh summer salads, BBQ delicacies, and a couple of refined ice-cold beers.

#4: Everything Cheese at DOC Pizzeria

Whether it’s their fresh mozzarella board or their melt-in-your-mouth pizzas, DOC Pizza is satisfying our every craving for Italian dining right now.  Sure, you’ve been to the Carlton and Albert Park locations, but have you taken a trip to their Mornington outpost? The perfect location for indulging in all the fior di latte you can eat.

#5: Brunch At Second Home

Melbourne’s brunch scene is ever-expanding, and one of our top recommendations off the beaten track is Second Home. Situated in Eltham, the venue itself is stunning – it doubles up as a gallery too – and the menu includes some of the best scrambled eggs on toast in the state, as well as a breakfast burger that we’d sell our first born for.

#6: Moonlight Cinema In The Royal Botanical Gardens

Moonlight Cinema is back, and with it comes a season of classic favourites and brand new releases. Book your tickets now, and get ready to enjoy Top Gun, Grease, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off alongside the latest Hunger Games and Bond instalments.

#7: Up Your Beauty Game At Sephora

Beauty buffs, you’re going to love what Sephora has in store for you in 2016! As well as stocking the beauty giant’s own range, you can also find heaps of awesome Aussie brands rolling out their new season colours in the Melbourne CBD store. We want it ALL.

#8: #Allofthesnacks at Yukie’s Snack Bar

Mr Miyagi has done it again. Their new neighbouring venue Yukie's Snack Bar serves up bite-size renditions of your Miaygi favourites until late, seven days a week - meaning there’s no excuse not to snack here.

#9: Hilarious Adult Musicals… No, Really.

From The Book of Mormon, which you can buy tickets to now, to Mister G’s Sing-A-Long, we’re loving these hilarious nights out! You’ll want to book your seats ASAP, as they’re the hottest tickets in town. See you in the front row, Listers.

#10: Live Music + Animals = The Best Gig Of Your Summer

Zoo Twilights pops up again from the end of the month, meaning you can chill out to some live tunes amongst Melbourne Zoo’s exotic inhabitants. If you’ve missed your chance for one of the January dates, lock in a February session from San Cisco, Last Dinosaurs or alt-rock icons Jebediah.
