Walking into Como’s HangOut on 20 Preston on a wintery Perth night is like walking straight into a warm hug. With cosy leather booths, a fire going and—if you pick the right night—some live music, you’ll be hanging out to stay here all night. And after one taste of the menu, you’ll probably be coming back time and time again.
At breakfast time, the menu has something for everyone, from the usual sweet and savoury breakfasts through to curry laksa and sliders for those who aren’t all that into breakfast.
Come dinner time and the menu is split into Asian style tapas and mains. Let me tell you right now that you need to try a few dishes from both sections. Provided you go with friends, you can share everything (laksa CAN be shared, you just have to know how!).
Here are 8 dishes you’ll be hanging out for at HangOut on 20 Preston!
The Curry Laksa
With more seafood than you can poke a stick at, delish fried tofu and a perfectly spiced coconut-y broth, there’s nothing not to love about the curry laksa. Laksa is pretty difficult to share I’ll admit, but everyone at the table is going to want to try this so you’ll just have to try and get the lion share of it!
The Singapore Chilli Crab
Soft shell crab is always a good idea and if you see it on a menu you should order it, no questions asked. But this crab-a-licious dish is extra spesh, wrapped in fried vermicelli noodles and served with the chef’s special Singaporean Chilli Crab sauce. Every bite is like crunchy perfection.
The Tower Burger
This one should be saved for the hungry—with a whole kilo of food on the plate, you’ll need to be prepared. Two beef patties, stacked with rib bacon, eggs and caramelised onion, served with calamari rings AND chips. Yep I’m not even joking right now. If you don’t think you can handle this there are a couple of sliders on the menu which will satisfy your burger cravings and the fried chicken ones are rad!
Not your usual soft steamed bun, these buns are oven-roasted, making them a bit crunchy and totally yum. Filled with either shredded duck or pulled lamb masala, I’m going to go right ahead and tell you to get both.
The Buttered King Prawns
Oh. Em. Gee. If you like prawns and you’re fond of butter this dish is going to be right up your alley. Amazing king prawns in a pool of spiced buttery, coconut sauce, these babies are dang tasty. I hope you’re not on a diet.
The Honey Glazed Bacon
Alright, let’s chat breakfast, the most important meal of the day. And what better way to start than with a big slab of honey glazed bacon served with a couple of poached eggs and habanero sauce for those who like it hot!
The Pulled Pork Croquettes
For those who like their breakfasts on the richer side, these bad boys are for you. Served with blue cheese cream sauce on a bed of crispy spaghetti with poached eggs and shaved parmesan, this is probs the meatiest, cheesiest dish you can still classify as breakfast. Did someone say hangover cure?
The Rice Pudding
Not one to ever choose sweet over savoury for breakfast, this sweet (but not overly so) little concoction is my top pick. Flavoured with coconut and saffron and topped with poached pear, toasted coconut and pistachio, it’s just as good to look at as it is to eat.
