HBO Is Turning Serial Into A Documentary Series

A podcast that needs absolutely no introduction, Serial is currently being made into a documentary series and yeah, we are SO here for it. The Case Against Adnan Syed will be a four-hour series covering the, well, case against Adnan in relation to the 1999 disappearance of 18-year-old Baltimore County high school student Hae Min Lee.

To give you a bit of background (not that you should need it), Adnan was Hae’s ex-boyfriend and given that, plus the combination of a damning statement by his mate Jay, plus some (now proven to be quite sketchy) cell phone data linking Adnan to the crime scene, he was convicted in 2000. Fast forward to 29 March 2018 and the Court of Special Appeals granted him a retrial following new evidence that challenged said cellphone data plus the long-awaited alibi witness, Asian McClain, taking the stand.

The series is being produced by Working Title TV and Instinct Productions, who’ve been working on the case since 2015, so we can only assume they’ve been doing a meticulous job of covering all angles of the case.

The Case Against Adnan Syed will air in 2019 and we can’t wait. Head here to read the full announcement.
