Boxing-Day sunshine coast

We’re just gonna come out and say it: where the hell did this year go? It seems like only yesterday we were bringing 2018 in, and now it’s pretty much done and dusted. Crazy times, friends!

With the silly season well and truly upon us, we’re already looking ahead at ways we can escape the Christmas madness and just enjoy this time for what it is: HOLIDAYS. Starting with Boxing Day, the day immediately after Christmas Day that typically consists of hangovers, leftovers and way too much cricket for anybody’s liking. Well, we’re here to shake it up a little for ya. Here are the places on the Sunny Coast opening their doors on December 26.

Cure the Christmas hangover with a little trip to Moffs’ much-loved coffee haunt, The Pocket. They’ll be churning out delicious brews bright and early on Boxing Day, from 6am onwards.

Just a stone’s throw from Ocean Street, Stoker Brewhouse on Aerodrome Road is the perfect little spot to sit back and spin yarns about the Christmas that was. This part-coffee shop, part-skateboard shop, part-bar is open on B-Day from 7.30am ‘til 2pm.

Ol’ faithful Decisions is open this Boxing Day for all your superfood OR superjunk needs. Roll in any time from 6am to 4.30pm to start your post-Christmas cleanse, or keep the good food times going.

We can’t speak for everyone, but we’re pretty sure one of the best ways to kick off a public holiday is with a beach swim, followed by a beach brunch. You can do just that with CK Wholefoods! They’re open same hours as norms—6am to 4pm.

Ahh, Bistro C…how do we love thee? Let us count the ways…not only do they slay the beachside brunch scene, it’s also the perfect place to stop by for lunch, dinner, snacks, sundowners…okay, let’s be real, it’s always a good time to stop by Bistro C. Open from 7am ‘til late, nab yourself a boardwalk table if you’re lucky and let the good vibes roll.

Extended fam still hangin’ around post-Christmas? Pile everyone into their cars and head down to the flash new Mooloolaba Wharf. Open from 8am ‘til late, Chances is the perfect spot to continue the family celebrations on Boxing Day. Adults can enjoy a cocktail or two overlooking the beautiful marina, and the littlies won’t want to leave the kids play room—could it be more perfect?

Helping our Caloundra locals this Boxing Day, Urban List fave Drift is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner…because no meals should be missed on a public holiday, ever. Beers, bites, brews, or all of the above.

With free range organic meats, the best local produce around, and everything made on-site from breads to chutneys, Wild Rocket at Misty’s Micro-Brewery is bound to be an all-round hit! While everyone else hits the beach, head for the hills this Boxing Day—they’re in it for the long haul, open 10am to 9pm.

Come one, come all! Not much is changing on Boxing Day at Cafe Le Monde—but that’s only ‘cause they’re doin’ it so well already, they don’t need to change a thang! Open all day, we reckon prime time to pop in to Café Le Monde is for a lazy lunch after a morning at the beach. We promise nobody will go hungry.

So fresh, so clean! This brand spankin’ new restaurant quietly opened its doors early December and Sunny Coasters are already feeling the love! The Dock is a relaxed riverside restaurant specialising in smoked meats, charcoal grill and high-quality drinks…all the good stuff! With three bars and 52 beer taps, you know nobody will go thirsty.

If you haven’t checked out Pier 33 yet, Boxing Day is your excuse…not that you need one to visit this gorgeous new waterfront restaurant! With nek-level views and a menu to match, your long public holiday lunch is sorted at Pier 33. Stay around for dinner as well—they’ll be open!

Nautical-themed El Capitano channels allll the chilled holiday vibes you could possibly need after a crazy hectic Christmas. But there’s much more than meets the eye –their pizzas are some of the best on the Coast! Personally, we’re of the opinion that it’s ALWAYS a good time for pizza, but if we had to pick just one meal, we’d go with dinner—so it’s super convenient that El Capitano is open from 5pm to 10pm on Boxing Day. Why not head in a little early and treat yo’self to an afternoon snack from their new charcuterie and mozzarella bar?
