Just when you thought you’d tried all the breweries on the Sunshine Coast, another one pops up in a place you’d least expect—and trust us, it’s ahhhhmazing! *swoon*
In our TOTALLY unbiased opinion, Cooroy is probably our fave little country town on the entire Sunshine Coast. It blends the chilled vibes of the hinterland, with just enough Noosa chic to stop it from being boring.
Cooroy locals, Jason and Sharon Cox seem to agree. Veterans of Coast hotspots like Whisky Boy and Jimmy Fox, they wanted to put together something on their own doorstep where locals could come for quality food and drink, without having to head to Noosa or Maroochydore.
And OMG have they delivered. Copperhead Restaurant And Brewery oozes style and we’re already calling it one of the hottest destinations to open on the Sunshine Coast in 2017. Bringing together some seriously experienced industry locals, Copperhead is also home to Head Chef Gary Martin and ex-Berardos on the Beach front of house guru, Matt Cook, along with Jason, whose role varies between general manager and head brewer extraordinaire.
This uber-talented team will be brewing up a storm—all in-house obvs—with shiny, industrial-looking beer-making equipment taking pride of place in the open, New York loft-inspired space. Choose between loads of quaffable ales, perfect for a chilled arvo session, as well as a few more experimental options for hardcore beer enthusiasts to get all snobby over.
And despite the exposed brick walls and rustic timber beams, don’t think this is just some blokey man-cave for craft beer fanboys. Oh no, my friends. From the epic wooden chandelier and distressed wire lightshades, to the custom-made-in-Noosa Green Cathedral oak furniture, the mid-century modern style of Copperhead is welcoming and elegant. The natural textures and fluffy throws, along with thoughtful acoustic design balance out the high ceilings and industrial-style hard surfaces.
The layout is designed so you can choose a spot to suit the kind of mood you’re after—grab a cold one standing at the public bar, sit back in the comfy lounges and catch up with your bestie while you work your way through the wine list, or secure a spot on the leather and oak bar stools opposite the centrepiece of the entire venue—a stunning polished copper wall with a dozen beer taps—and just sit there and people-watch.
The menu is giving us some serious love too. It’s focused on great produce and shared feasts with mates. The huge round tables are just right for laying out plates of goodies for everyone to join in, or score one of the long tables in the cozy bar space for your next party.
If you’re up for a real experience, book ahead for the Brewer’s Table—where you and your foodie mates put yourself in the hands of the chef and you’ll be served a tasting menu of the best local produce, matched with house-brewed craft beers.
And don’t worry about not being able to schedule a trip to the Noosa Hinterland in your busy social calendar—the crew are here for you breakfast, lunch and dinner. Literally. They’ll be open from 11am until late, Monday to Saturday, plus Sunday brekky and lunch, right through to the afternoon for those of us who just can’t seem to get up from that super-comfy couch… There’s even talk of planning a courtesy bus down the track—woot!
Officially opening tonight, there's no time like the present to get on out to Cooroy, sink a few frothies and welcome the Sunshine Coast's newest brewery to the fold. What a time to be alive!
