So, a Facebook memory has just popped up and reminded you it’s your anniversary today and you need to book a romantic dinner stat… or maybe you feel like treating your love to a spontaneous night out, just because.
Regardless, book a table for two any one of the Sunshine Coast’s best date night restaurants and it’s guaranteed to earn you major brownie points. You’re welcome.
Exuding a sophisticated charm and serving some of the best Italian food to ever pass by your lips, Locale is a romantic sweet spot and a must for your next date night on the Sunshine Coast. Start your evening at the dimly-lit bar with an aperitivo, before settling down for a delicious dinner and (if you’re not uncomfortably full) why not split an affogato for your very own Lady and the Tramp moment!
Sum Yung Guys
Sharing insanely good food and filling up on cocktails is our idea of an epic date night, and Sum Yung Guys delivers everytime. To be honest, everything on the menu is a winner (the SYG legends just nabbed their first Chef’s Hat), so you can’t really go wrong, but some standouts are Miang of crispy rice cake with peanut relish, green apple and kaffir, and cuttlefish with green mango, lemongrass and betel leaf. Don’t forget to order a side of roti to mop your plate clean too, because there are millions of nerve endings in your fingertips and when you eat with your hands you are more aware of the textures and tastes of your food. Plus, it brings an element of playful sensuality… just don’t make too much of a mess or you might find yourself in the friend zone.
Overlooking the Noosa River, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful location than Wasabi, and for maximum viewing pleasure we recommend booking a table at sunset. Executive Chef Zeb Gilbert and his team are known for delivering the highest standard of palate-pleasers that capture an authentic Japanese aesthetic while using as many locally grown elements as possible. One thing is for certain, this is the best date-night restaurant on the Sunshine Coast for leaving a lasting impression.
If you’re taking your partner out on a whim and chasing a more casual vibe, then pop in to Pier 33. Grab an outdoor table, order a cocktail or two, and share a dozen fresh natural oysters as you watch the sun set over the marina. There really is nothing quite like a waterfront date, especially on a balmy summer night.
It’s a fact, French accents make the ladies weak at the knees. So imagine what a spread of French cuisine will do. Channelling a hip Melbourne vibe, yet serving up some of the best tastes from New Orleans and France, dining at Orléans will leave you feeling like you were whisked away on a private jet for an evening of romance. And yes, it’s easily one of the Sunshine Coast’s best date-night restaurants.
The intimate location, coupled with exquisite food, is an unbeatable combo, which is why The Tamarind is a firm favourite of ours. If your beloved is a foodie, then sit back and put your trust in head chef Daniel Jarrett and indulge in the five-course Chef’s Selection with matching wines. Or, why not plan a lunch date, and pick up one of The Tamarind’s barbecue or picnic hampers to enjoy in seclusion on the private, rainforest-surrounded grounds. Our fave is the Thai street-style barbecue for two which comes with marinated chicken, prawns and fish, Asian noodle salad, Som Tom and house-made condiments. Now that’s a memorable date.
The Rooftop Bar & Garden
From atop of the seven-storey-high lavish bar and garden, overlooking the twinkling lights of the cityscape and out to an unbeatable panoramic vista, there is an essence of magic you’ll only find at The Rooftop Bar & Garden. To capitalise on the mood, we recommend kicking off with one of their signature cocktails while you peruse the menu, where you’ll find mouth-watering offerings such as Brazilian picanha beef; sweet potato gnocchi with gorgonzola cream; and spiced chocolate and coconut mousse with orange Coyo labne and chocolate wafers. Delish!
Frank + Lotti
Looking for a quiet date night? Or perhaps a nightcap is in order. Either way, intimate wine bar Frank + Lotti is hands down one of the cosiest venues on the Sunshine Coast. Softly lit with pendant lights and decked out with leather and velvet furnishings, it is the ultimate setting for your next date night on the Sunshine Coast. With about 100 different bottles on offer, it’s a wine-lover’s dream and the best part is you can try most by the glass. With abundant temptation from the cellar, it’s lucky Frank + Lotti has an equally appealing menu of Italian cheeses, meats, house-baked bread and pickles, cicchetti (small plates) and pizzas, to help soak it all up.
When a date calls for a relaxed setting, Miss Moneypenny’s is at the top of our list, especially with master mixologist Ben Walsh working his magic behind the bar. Order his and hers cocktails and tuck into the charcuterie share board laden with hot cantimpalo salami, noix de jambon and grilled squid ink salami; or maybe the Pescatore board is more your style with natural and voodoo bacon oysters, ceviche of hiramasa kingfish and chilli clam hot pot. It’s no surprise Miss Moneypenny’s is one of the hottest spots for a date night on the Sunshine Coast.
Tucked in Yandina, Bar Deco is a Belgian beer and wine garden, and is a welcome contradiction to the Sunshine Coast’s bright, light and beachy restaurant scene we’ve come to know and love. And while you may visit for the intimate vibes, we can guarantee you’ll be staying for the epic cocktails (the mixologist has over 25 years’ experience—so you can trust him to guide you), hand-picked and self-imported Belgian beer, and the European-style food. It’s a winning combination that will have you calling Bar Deco next time you’re on the hunt for the perfect date-night restaurant on the Sunshine Coast.
