We don’t get to Buderim nearly enough, so when we caught wind of Hamptons Espresso opening back in February, it went straight to the top of our to-do list.
Thing is, to-do lists have a way of getting a bit cray and very chunky, so it wasn’t until last week that we actually got to hang out at this café in the flesh. We went for the morning, but could’ve easily stayed for the day. Because, cake. And wifi. And coffee. Anyhoo!
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that this joint is either owned by a dude named Hamptons or, and this is a big OR, it is a café that takes notes from the sophisticated coastal-decorating style adored the world over. Turns out it’s the latter, even if we were hedging our bets on good ol’ Mr Hampy.
Yeah, yeah, cafés are about food and drink, but they’re also about interiors and ambience. Agreed? So let’s start off there.
Far from lacking in style, this Hamptons-esque space looks straight out of one of those posh coffee-table books. A colour scheme of white and blue (naturally!) is woven throughout the café, provincial crossback bar stools await your derriere, and there’s like a million ceramics, old-world books, and antique dishes and silver teapots on display for you to ogle over. If the Hamptons style is right up your decorating alley, then there’s a good chance you’ll feel a total sense of
calm “holy shit, is this place even real?” as soon as you catch a glimpse.
When we visit on a weekday morning, the café is buzzing with a mix of uni students, mums and bubs, and off-to-work folk grabbing an early coffee. We nab a corner, where custom-made bench seats loaded with pretty cushions create a cosy nook, perfect for tea-sipping and cake-eating… or so we “heard”.
Beyond its looks—because we are deeper than that, guys—this newish café slings a delicious brew from one of our fave local coffee roasters, Tim Adams Specialty Coffee. And, when it’s made by awesome baristas including owner Sam Deen, you know your caffeine hit is in safe hands. So too, is the sweet hit.
Prior to opening Hamptons Espresso, Sam ran a cake business, whipping up gluten-free and vegan sweets for cafés across the Coast. And now we get to enjoy the goods all in the one place. Think: gluten-free apple, pear, and brandy cake or gluten-free brownies—gooey choc or salted caramel fudge. And that’s just the beginning. Any day of the week, you’ll find the cabinet packed with croissants loaded with turkey, cranberry and Swiss cheese, ready to be toasted. And Turkish options from home-baked maple ham, egg, and hollandaise to chargrilled pumpkin, feta, and hummus. Hungry, yet?
We’re pretty taken with Hamptons Espresso and after a morning tapping away at our computers (they have free wifi), and knocking back coffees and pots of T2, became super jealous of anyone who lives within walking distance. For the rest of us, who aren’t so lucky, it’s totally worth the drive. You’ll be rewarded with a shitload of stunning pics for your Insta account, if nothing else.
Hamptons Espresso is open from 6am, seven days for all of your coffee-drinking, cake-devouring needs.
