Thairrific! | Where To Find The Coast's Best Pad Thai

By Claire Plush - 27 Jul 2016

Pad Thai—are there two sweeter words to the ears when you’re craving something warm, filling, and flavour-packed but don’t know what? We highly doubt it.

It’s pretty clear that Thai food is the international cuisine that everybody gets a hankering for at some point, and Pad Thai is (un)officially the holy grail of every Thai menu.

Because we know we’re not alone in our cravings, we’ve rounded up six of the best Thai restaurants on the Sunshine Coast where you can get your next Pad Thai fix.

Siam Spicy Thai

You know how you have your fave dishes at certain places and you’d never, while in a sober state, think of ordering anything else—well, duck Pad Thai at Siam Spicy Thai is that dish for us. Don’t freak out that it’s not on the menu; these easy-going peeps are happy to accommodate meaty substitutes with a smile and a side of fresh chilli. Just don’t touch your eyes after you’ve done your sprinkling. Ouch!

Dhom’s Kitchen

Sure, sometimes it may seem a little unadventurous to order something as common as Pad Thai when you’re perusing a winner of a menu, but when you’re dining at Dhom’s Kitchen it’s just seen as smart. Why? Because this tiny Cooroy restaurant dishes up a take on the classic Pad Thai Koong (that means it’s got prawns, peeps), that would totally sit in the dictionary beside “epic”. Super fresh flavours are what this husband and wife team are renowned for, making this spot a winner on so many levels. Out of town guests visiting? Take them here for that secret spot only a local would know. They’ll be impressed—promise!

Pum’s Kitchen

Hands down one of the best Thai joints on the Sunshine Coast, this Big Top gem is a once tried, always on your mind kinda place. And, if you’ve been banging on about their Pad See Ew, then wait till you try their Pad Thai. Garnished with peanuts and a slice of fresh lime, if “fresh is best” is your life motto, then you can’t do much better than Pum’s Kitchen. Crammed into a takeaway container (we have no idea how they get the lid to close, it’s that full), take this baby down to the river for a picnic.

Thai Tong

We might get a boot up the backside for telling you about this local fave, but worse things have happened. It’ll be difficult to bypass Thai Tong’s whole crispy fish, but if you manage to blurt out “Pad Thai” when it comes time to order, you’ll be rewarded with an authentic version of the dish, featuring rice noodles, egg, bean shoots, and peanuts. Add to it your meat of choice, and you’ll see why this rates as one of the best Thai restaurants on the Sunshine Coast. The cheap prices, some of the friendliest wait staff we’ve come across, and the unpretentious setting—this spot sums up everything we love about Hinterland towns.

Thai Seasons

If it’s been a while since you’ve hit up Thai Seasons, well you’d best be checking out their new Mooloolaba digs. It’s a new location but the food is the same—flavoursome, fresh, and easy on the wallet. Start with the chicken satay, and then beeline straight to the Pad Thai. This restaurant has been around forever, and has the following to match, so if you want to nab a table be sure to book ahead.

Moom

Moom is the place you go in Mooloolaba if you’re craving Pad Thai—as close as you can get to the real deal dishes you were scoffing on your last trip to Thailand—but your dining partner wants Pho. Hey, stranger things have happened! But this is why Moom is just so dang handy. As well as serving up some of the best Pho on the Sunshine Coast, they also nail a mean Pad Thai mixed with veggies and your choice of chicken, beef, pork, prawns, seafood combination, or duck.
