The long weekend is just around the corner and many of our favourite spots to wine, dine and party are hosting events.
From BBQ breakfasts and river cruises to giant slip ‘n slides, make the most of three whole days off with this list of the best things to do on the Sunshine Coast this Australia Day.
The good lads at Moto are firing up the barbie for their infamous Aussie Day breakfast from 6.30am till noon. You’ll be forgiven for skipping the Vegemite on toast to fight hunger with Aussie-inspired burgers and a locally-spirited cocktail menu. Moto leads the pack for morning events, so scoot on down and line the belly for the impending arvo of boozing.
Land & Sea Brewery
Noosa’s original craft brewery, Land & Sea, will be throwing your typical sunshine state party with surfing on the big screens, pinball machines and a vegan vs junk food menu. But, the real drawcard is their limited release Little Red Session Ale, a slightly piney brew with hints of citrus that you know will be 100 percent delish. Prepare your palates for this one, it’s bound to be a winner.
If you know what’s good for you, you’ll make an appearance at Maleny’s Brouhaha Brewery where it’s business as usual with the addition of a limited release, Sunshine Sour, on the taps. The brainchild of Brouhaha’s master brewer, this liquid summer slaps tastebuds with flavours of mango, nectarine and peach. We’re into it, and we bet you will be, too.
Live music fans grab a Kleenex, we’ve a feeling you’ll be drooling at SolBar’s Oz Day line-up of The Delta Riggs supported by Nice Biscuit and Flying Machine. Guitars, swagger and dancing and coldies—the perfect way to start this Australia Day long weekend on the Sunshine Coast. Pre-sale $25 or $30 on the door. Click here for more information.
Sandstone Point Hotel
If ever there was a nation to claim the slip n’ slide creation, we reckon ‘Straya would be in with a fair shot. Case in point; Sandstone Point Hotel as they lay down the 50-metre mega slide for a day of cool fun. From midday onwards sink your teeth into an Aussie lamb barbie, lamington-eating competitions and live music upon the shores of Pumicestone Passage.
Your Mates Brewing Co
Good times are guaranteed as you spend Oz Day throwing back a few crafties with your mates at one of our awesome local breweries. Expect a menu of spit roast and low-n-slow BBQ to keep your bellies fed, and music that’s live and local with Sunshine Coast talent.
Café Le Monde
Fuelling surfers since ’86, these guys sure know how to treat a sunburnt nation. So, once your daytime events settle, get yourself to Café Le Monde where DJs Joskie and Jed will provide the tunes from 8pm till late. When it’s time to feed your crew, $26 will set you up with a steak, chips and beer combo—our idea of a fair dinkum date.
The Catalina crew will be knocking out a triple whammy of events throughout the long weekend, kicking off with Friday Night Social feat. Something for Catering meals and beats by Brett Gadinne. A lunch on the river follows on the Saturday and it seems we’re not only singing happy birthday to Australia this weekend but also M.V. Catalina, as it rings in its third year with Doorly on the decks for a Saltwater Sunday Session. Prices vary, so click here for more information.
For a second year running, Doorly lands upon our shore to treat Maroochydore’s Ocean Street Precinct to an Oz Day shindig like no other. Supported by local faves, Sevader and Tim Fuchs, plus Colombian Native and Mr Jose Lopez, the d-floor will be pumping. It’ll only cost you $10 at Old Soul's door and for safety reasons, we’d recommend leaving the pluggers at home this time. For more information, click here.
Tucker, booze and good times are guaranteed as Village Bicycle set the barbie into beast mode for a sausage sizzle from 3pm. Aussie hits will be blaring and prizes awarded for the day’s best-dressed. For more information, click here.
