Art & About is back again and is giving us plenty of things to do in Sydney that will fill our culture quota. And with the announcement that Art & About will be a year-round thing rather than a month long festival, there are now tonnes of reasons to get out of the house rather than resigning yourself to binge watching multiple seasons of Revenge/Pretty Little Liars/Friday Night Lights. We’ve selected a few of our picks of Art & About to get you started…

Kicking off on September 18th, Art & About sees Cave Urban’s Near Kin Kin set up at Customs House Square. This mesmerising 31-metre high sculpture allows onlookers to walk in and around the artwork that has been designed to look like a bamboo forest and reflects the vast changes since 1788 in Sydney.

Heading up toward George Street, from 18th-27th September the Sydney Town Hall will be transformed into The Terrace—a new live music venue, treating us to free (yes, free!) music, with everything from indie pop to Latin jazz. So if you’re looking for a cheap, yet, cultural date in Sydney—this is a goodun.

Moving east to Hyde Park, Art & About Festival favourite, Australian Life portrays Australian life through the eyes of Australians. 22 thought-provoking photographs will be on display in this outdoor gallery until 11th October. Our tip? Pick a clear night and wander around Hyde Park North before hitting up Darlinghurst for some delicious eats.

As the weather warms up, prepare yourself for many an outdoor cinema, with Art & About joining in to revisit some classics. On November 21st, head to Golden Age Cinema and experience More Human Than Humanan evening that explores the blurred lines between man and machine. Here you’ll experience a futuristic night market before a rooftop screening of Blade Runner. Many more nights like this are planned so keep your eyes peeled for your favourite movies which will be paired with locations fit to be the film set. January 29th sees Jaws screening at Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool with themed drinks and food to get you in the Jaws mood. Sounds like fun to us!

With plenty of events lined up over the next few months, check out the Art & About website to keep up to date with all the great things to do in Sydney. It’s time to get Art & About!
