5 Things That Will Make Your Life Better This Month

By Rachel Lay - 13 Dec 2017

Charity, Dogs, Puppies, Downsizing

Believe it or not, there’s actually more to life than espresso martinis and devouring a cheeseboard each weekend. Funny, huh?! Despite the fact that we tend to spend a lot of our weekends glued to a screen (TV, phone, laptop—we don’t discriminate), we’re here to bring you a list of things that will 100% make your life that much better this month. Because HOW is it already time for 2018?!

We've teamed up with Paramount Pictures to bring you this guide to leveling up in life. Why? To celebrate the launch of their newest summer flick, Downsizing. Because in the movie, the characters (hi, Matt Damon) decide to ditch their regular 9-5 in favour of being "downsized" to live in a tiny town. Sounds extra, we know, but it got us this thinking about how much more there actually is to life. So here you have it: six easy AF things to make your life that much better.

#1 A Good Book

There’s nothing like sinking your teeth into a good book to make you realise that you’re a part of something much, much bigger. These are our faves, FYI. And so are these, actually. Also, don’t miss these guys. Who are we kidding—read them all! Grab your Kindle, chuck on a hat, and spend hours devouring a good book in the sunshine. Your brain will love you for it.

#2 Some Fresh Air

Flash-back to those moments of pure, unbridled stress when your mum/ co-worker / now-ex-boyfriend suggested “grabbing some fresh air” and you losing your actual shit. Well, turns out they were probs right. Fresh air is the (literal) giver of life, so do yourself a favour and fill up a big bottle of water and get yourself some damn fresh air. Bonus points if you share some self-affirmations while you’re at it.

#3 Give Back!

The best way to warm your heart and help others around you is to give back. Find a local soup kitchen, or do a clean out of your wardrobe and donate it to people in need. It can be as easy as giving someone a compliment or chucking someone a like—it all adds up! Aim to dish out one act of kindness a day and see how much better you'll be feeling!

#4 A Movie That Makes You Think

Is there a better feeling than watching a movie that really makes you think, and then totally reevaluating life? Nope. Our current pick is Downsizing, a newbie starring Matt Damon and Christoph Waltz, who decided to be shrunk in order to start a new life in a new (and much smaller) community. Watching the movie will make you think about life, your possessions, your relationships…well, everything, really. You're going to want to Marie Kondo your life after this.

#5 Cuddles With Animals

Fact: animal shelters are always in need of volunteers. So if you’re petless but need a little bit of love in your life (read: every single person reading this article) head down to your local animal shelter and sign your name on the dotted line. They need people to cuddle up to lonely pups, take them for walks, and even knit them blankets for the winter. Sign us up!?

Feeling like a bigger world is waiting? Catch Downsizing in cinemas Boxing Day.
