Sipping a cold one and blissing out to the soulful sounds of the Hanlon Brothers is a rite of passage on the Gold Coast. Whether it’s at The Island Rooftop for a Sunday session or a late-night groove in IKU’s back bar, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t fallen for the lovable trio’s smooth beats.
But if the colder temps have you huddled up inside this winter, you no longer have to stray from the couch to enjoy their beats with the brothers dropping their new single SOLAR.
We caught up with MC Ruka to chat the new single, their upcoming EP and their favourite part about living on the Gold Coast.
What inspired SOLAR?
Our surroundings were a huge inspiration—our whole life growing up on the Goldy—connected to the beach and sun, the natural ‘feel-good’ energy with no limits and boundaries. Also, our roots, growing up together as brothers and listening to Jazz, Hip Hop and R&B. SOLAR represents where we came from, and where we’re going.
What can fans expect from the E.P?
We have nearly finished the E.P. It’s been an 18-month process but it’s fresh and a completely new sound which makes it exciting for us. What fans can expect is something real, organic and relative to coast living with a twist of today’s future sound. We worked with producer P.T Parcel and we pushed boundaries on this one.
What would be your dream gig?
Coachella would be THE dream gig! And all the amazing Aussie Festivals like Splendour and Laneway where we can share our music and connect with thousands of people.
Who is inspiring you musically at the moment?
Kanye West, Anderson Paak, Mono Neon, Kendrick Lamar, Snarky Puppy, The Roots and Drake.
The Fast Five:
