You Can’t Call Yourself A GC Squad Until You’ve Done These 7 Things

Thanks to the likes of T-Swift and co, everyone wants needs a squad. You know, a group of friends that are basically family. The kind of group you do absolutely everything with. And no, we’re not just talking about the ladies here. The fellas are allllll about the #squadgoals, too. Just ask the Gold Coast Suns, who have helped us come up with this list of absolute must dos for you and your best buds.

Fire up the group chat and check these bad boys off the list, ASAP.

Nailed Trivia Night Tuesday

We don’t care how corny you think it is, trivia night is totally our jam and it should absolutely be your squad’s jam too. With a whole heap of venues on the GC now dedicating one night of the week to using brain cells (instead of killing them), it’s a weekly must-do. Whether you know Carrie Bradshaw’s foot size or who’s the coach of the Gold Coast Suns, with your gang’s powers combined, you could actually win.

Embraced The Meat Sweats

You can’t call yourself a GC local—let alone a squad—if you haven’t been to the finger-lickin' BBQ Bazaar night market in Burleigh. Every Friday and Saturday night, you'll find over 17 vendors dishing up every kind of barbecued thing you can think of, from jerk chicken and smoked brisket, to meat buns and pork ribs. Eat yourselves into a food coma, then roll each other home.

Nabbed Front Row Seats At The Footy

Even if you’re not that into sport, a night at the AFL guarantees good times. Front row seats means sitting right up close to the action, beer and food in hand, and donning your best red and gold for the match (BYO pom poms) to cheer on the boys. Get your tickets here to avoid disappointment.

Chased Waterfalls

The best thing about living on the GC is the water. From the beaches to the rivers, there’s no shortage of places to swim (even in winter) but secret waterfalls deserve a spot at the top. From Twin Falls at Springbrook National Park to the Cronan Creek Cascades at Mount Barney, pack a picnic, get chasin’ and explore the oh-so stunning hinterland with all your pals.

Long Lunched At Rick Shores

Everyone knows Rick Shores is one of the most Insta-worthy restaurants in the country AKA the ultimate place for a #squadgoals ‘gram. Round up the gang, frock (or suit) up and spend the afternoon gorging on bug rolls, drinking fancy cocktails, and updating your feed. Our advice: order the shared banquet so you can taste (and snap) one of everything.

Pretended To Be Picasso

Paint and sip classes are one of our all time fave things. With the help of a friendly bottle of vino, and an even friendlier art teacher, you and your best buds will be let loose with a paintbrush to create what’s bound to be a masterpiece. You’ll each have your own canvas but don’t be afraid to help each other out. Or do...

Become A Mini Golf Pro

Holey Moley is like the Vegas of putt-putt. Think a completely OTT 18-hole mini golf course with a delicious cocktail bar, neon lights and all of the LOLs. Unleash your inner competitor and beat your besties to be crowned king or queen, then take on karaoke, bowling, and/or one of their two (yes, TWO!) epic escape rooms.
