Yeasty Vegemite Icypoles Are Now A Thing

It’s moments like this we flash back to Jeff Goldblum’s prophetic warning in Jurassic Park. “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.”

The moral of that story was ‘Don’t f*ck with nature’. A lesson Australia’s favourite yeast condiment has decided to ignore.

Vegemite icypoles. There, we said it. According to Vegemite’s twitter feed, these abominations are now an actual thing. Time will tell if they’re heading to a freezer aisle near you.

It seems this crime against humanity was invented by Trish McKenzie, food design manager at Bega Cheese. It was meant to be a sort of DIY idea for hardcore fans of the salty spread.

Trish added a bucket-load of honey to the icypole recipe, presumably to mask the salty, Kraken-like taste of actual Vegemite. We suspect this will have the same culinary effect as adding a pinch of cinnamon to a live crocodile.

Bega Cheese acquired the corporation that controls Vegemite at the start of the year, so who knows...this thing could be for real.
