New Release Movies to see this April

April has a big line-up of must-see movies coming to your screens so book in your date nights or bestie nights and get ready for some seriously good, popcorn-fuelled watching. Whether you are a light-hearted comedy, hide-behind-your-hands horror or real-life story fan, there is an array of new releases showing this April that you’ll want to head along to.

Red Joan

Red Joan tells an incredible story, based on the true events and life of Joan Stanley. In 2000 Joan is contently retired when her quiet life is suddenly disrupted as she is arrested by M15 and accused of providing top-secret intelligence to Communist Russia. Flashback 62 years, in the midst of WW1, Joan is working at a top-secret nuclear research facility and is confronted with the realisation that the world is on the brink of absolute destruction. Faced with the impossible question of betraying her country or saving it, Joan is forced to make a decision that will change her life forever.

Based on the DC comics character Shazam, this hilarious action flick follows Billy Batson, a streetwise, 14-year-old foster kid as he discovers the superhero inside of him. As he transforms into a god-like, adultish, super version of himself by shouting one word, SHAZAM, Billy’s world as he knows it is completely flipped upside down. Still a kid at heart, Billy does what any teen would do with recently discovered powers, not a lot of anything useful but a whole lot of fun and nuisance. From flying to x-ray vision and getting out of his social studies test, the thrill doesn’t last long as Billy discovers the responsibility that comes with his powers.

The Curse of the Weeping Woman

One for the brave–from the producers of The Conjuring comes The Curse of the Weeping Woman. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, a social worker ignores the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment and finds herself and her kids drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. The only hope of surviving La Llorona’s deadly wrath is a disillusioned priest and his practices to keep evil at bay. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat as fear and faith collide in the most terrifyingly brilliant way.

In this light-hearted comedy, Jordan Sanders, a take-no-prisoners, ultimate boss-lady wakes up in her penthouse just before a do-or-die presentation only to find she is the 13-year-old version of herself. April, Jordan’s long-suffering and worked to death assistant is the only one who knows the secret about her boss (and daily tormentor). Now trapped in her awkward tween body right at the peak of a serious business deal, Jordan has to figure out how to grow up all over again, whilst April takes the reigns of the highly successful business world.

Avengers Endgame

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Thanos has wiped out half of all life in the universe. The fractured, slightly broken but still standing Avengers assemble one last time in an attempt to undo the destruction of Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe. In their one final stand, this Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two much-loved films will deliver the epic finale that the masterpiece story deserves.

Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, this action-packed watch follows the legendary half superhero half demon, Hellboy as he attempts to stop the resurrected ancient sorceress, Nimue in her quest to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the worlds of the supernatural and human, Hellboy is hell-bent on stopping the Blood Queen Nimue in her mission to completely destroy the world. If you’re an action junkie, then Hellboy is definitely one to watch this April.
