Fruit mince pies have hit the supermarkets, which means you’re just a hop, skip and a little drummer’s beat away from the onslaught of Christmas festivities and feasting.
But first, with the help of the City of Perth, we’ve arranged a bunch of ultra fun and festive date night activities for you to check off before the Christmas crazies (and kilos) set in.
The Christmas Lights Trail is back and it’s even more incredible with the addition of a light maze and glittery tunnel. Plus, there’s plenty of festive flicks and markets to get around.
Christmas Lights Trail
Christmas, twinkly lights and balmy nights make for the ultimate romantic date backdrop, and this year’s Christmas Lights Trail supported by Lotterywest offers all of those things, and more. They will be transforming the city every night from 6 to 11pm right up until Christmas Eve. Start your date at the Twilight Hawkers Market and then set out on the self-guided walk, which will stop by Santa’s Magical Castle illuminated with over 100,000 lights, a giant Christmas bauble, light labyrinth, tinsel tunnel and incredible Christmas projections. Consider your inner child well and truly satisfied.
Are you a stingy Santa? We’ve got your back. All of your favourite Christmas movies are coming to the Northbridge Piazza this jolly holiday season and they are absolutely free. Grab a big bowl of takeaway pasta from Francoforte or some Flipside Burgers and get yourself there nice and early so you and your date can nab a beanbag. They’re happening every Saturday from 24 November to 29 December, kicking off at 4:30pm. After all, what’s Christmas without bulk Christmas movies?
RAC Christmas Pageant
Dating a big kid? Then the Christmas Pageant is the holy grail of Christmas date activities for you. Back for its 46th year, the pageant is going down along St Georges Terrace on 1 December from 7:30pm and it’s absolutely free as always. Expect plenty of colour, spectacle and a bit of magic as the floats pass by. End your night with a stroll around Elizabeth Quay and some gelato from Gusto.
Forget taking your date to Europe, Perth’s got loads going on in the Christmas market department this year. There’s the Christmas Markets at Cathedral Square on 8 and 15 December and the 140 Christmas Markets on 5 and 19 December. Office workers can bring their lunch dates to the Summer Markets at Central Park on Wednesdays between 11am and 2pm (until 19 December) and Christmas in the Plaza at QV1 from 11 to 13 December. Remember to bring plenty of cash if your date’s love language is gifts.
A maze is the ultimate litmus test of whether a relationship is going to work, so if you need to find out once and for all, head down to Elizabeth Quay and take a stab at the Christmas Maze* that’s popping up on the lawn. It’s open every day from 8 to 16 December and you can go in the draw to win a prize if you can find all nine reindeer as you make your way out. *Enter maze at your own risk, we take no responsibility for any squabbles, arguments or relationship breakdowns that may occur in the process.
Twilight Christmas Festival
The crew from Perth City Farm is throwing an awesome Christmas Festival on 5 December and it’s got all the date night boxes ticked. Taste your way around the food stalls and vans, stock up on Christmas presents from local makers and enjoy laidback tunes from local musicians. Fur babies are welcome and remember to bring a gold coin for entry (from 4:30pm).
