Salted Caramel Gin Exists And You May Now Drink Dessert

Okay guys, this is big.

Once upon a time, the best alcoholic dessert you could get was tiramisu (not complaining) and maybe plum pudding at Christmas time. But the world is a different, ever-changing place, and the world of food even more so (at least, we like to think so). Recently, we came across Bailey’s cheesecake, which is downright delicious. But this discovery might well and truly take the proverbial cake when it comes to combining two of life’s sweetest pleasures into one oozy, boozy, drinkable dessert. The peeps from Poetic License, an independent small-batch distillery in Sunderland, have come out with a Baked Apple & Salted Caramel Gin Liqueur and people are freaking out.

The makers themselves describe the taste of this divine concoction as ‘syrupy sweet throughout with a faint Himalayan sea salt bite’, saying that ‘apple strudels dominate the palate, followed by a succulent soft toffee finish.’ In layman’s terms, it’s freakin’ delicious.

So, you might be asking, how do you drink it? Well, gin connoisseurs (or at least, sweet-toothed, gin-crazed writers) the world over are saying it’s to be served on the rocks, or poured over a standard dessert like ice-cream or chocolate pudding. Basically, anything you’d normally put caramel sauce on, you can now replace with this, because, well, gin.

Now for the big question: can we get it here in Oz? I wouldn’t be so cruel as to introduce to you this tantalising invention, only to cut you off at the knees. The liquid gold is shipping to Australia via Master of Malt, and is only $29.42 plus shipping. You heard me. Twenty-nine bucks. (Pretty sure the shipping will cost more than the actual product, but you gotta’ do what you gotta’ do).

Before you run to go order some, you should be aware that Poetic License also produces Espresso Gin and a ‘Picnic Gin’ that is strawberry and cream flavoured—so don’t expect to be shutting that browser down without a bit of a hit to the bank account.
