There won't be any lifesize robotic sharks at this one, but there will be shark cocktails, a shark photobooth, plenty of meat-free eats, a silent auction and door prizes galore, as well as some super interesting talks about sharks from industry leaders like Lindsay Lyon of Shark Shield and Richard Talmage of Shark Mitigation Systems.
It's all being organised by superstar shark biologist Amanda Elizabeth—the Discovery Channel presenter who launched the Fin Free Soup project last year—along with Generation Awakening and Everlasting Events, with all proceeds going towards the Fin Free Soup project and Amanda's shark conservation efforts.
In case you don't know what Fin Free Soup is all about, the project aims to eliminate shark fin soup being served in restaurants around the world. Since launching in WA last year, it has expanded to Victoria, New South Wales, ACT and London, with 230 restaurants personally verified by Amanda and listed on the website. If you want to know the big deal about the shark fin trade, just google it and try not to cry.
If you're keen to support the cause, head to Perth's first shark party for a night of fun and keep an eye out for the Discovery Channel doco Shark Soup, which will be airing during shark week this year.
