Jillian’s Cakery Sets Up Camp In Surry Hills

There’s nothing we love more than a new opening, especially when it stocks a plethora of baked goods that can satisfy our passion for the sweeter things in life AND is run by someone who shares that passion. We say hello to one of Sydney’s newest and best cake shops – Jillian’s Cakery.

The brand new cakery is the product of Jillian Butler’s desire to escape the corporate world and enter a life filled with buttery icing, sticky cinnamon rolls and fudgy brownies – Jillian is a woman after our own heart. All cakes are baked with love onsite every day, (you can even see Jillian and her crew working away while you decide what to order) and everything is fresh, fresh, fresh. 

Now, let’s get down to business – cake business. The creations at Jillian’s Cakery are baked from scratch and chock full of everything you love about baked goods, whether you like it dense, fluffy, filled with cream or topped with icing. 

We do appreciate the art of a good carrot cake with lashings of cream cheese icing around here, and each one of Jillian’s ‘Bunny’s Carrot Cakes’ contain half a kilo of carrots, so we’re getting plenty of veg and can have a second helping – science! 

Ever heard of a Tres Leches cake? Allow us to introduce you to this creation, a Latin American torte that is soaked in three different milks to give it an extra caramelly, fluffy flavour. Lovers of Red Velvet are in luck – The Ruby is the stuff of sweet, crimson dreams covered in buttery vanilla bean icing. 

We (reluctantly) understand that sometimes a craving for something sweet doesn’t necessarily warrant an entire cake, and Jillian has sorted that out by offering an array of smaller treats – we’re talking the fudgiest of brownies, giant cookies and the stickiest, most addictive (and freshly-made) cinnamon rolls around. Finally, it would be rude not to mention the crunchy and moreish salted caramel popcorn which are the kind of delicious treats that get us through 3.30itis.

If you’re feeling like something more of the savoury persuasion, Jillian’s Cakery have created the bacon and egg roll 2.0 in the form of a bacon, egg and tomato galette – think of it like an open faced pie that will greet you in the morning while you grab your happy hour coffee from Jillian’s – $1 off your brew of choice before 9:30am! You can also grab a soup or quiche if you’re in the market for lunch in Surry Hills.
