If the pun isn't incentive enough to visit, then maybe flaky glazed danishes, white chocolate and berry tarts, and salted caramel fondants provide some extra impetus. Yes, Sydney does need another bakery.
Run by the team behind Tapeo, the café, tapas spot and bakery that's fast become a beloved fixture of the Redfern dining scene, Breadfern dares to venture where its predecessor doesn't – into the realm of gluten. Tapeo's iconic range of 22 gluten-free tarts has been magnified to baked goods galore, with plenty of savoury options to balance the sweet. Think chicken, mushroom and cheese hand pies and cheesy pizza rolls. There's also a range of four to five types of bread loaves, including classic sourdough, olive and fruit.
While there's charm to the recycled wood furnishings and electic décor, this isn't the place to order ten pastries and plonk yourself down at a table. There are currently no seats, so you'd be best off crossing the road and picnicking at Redfern Park.
